Question of the day: what buzzwords make you want to not read a book? #QotD

Interestingly, these types of words came up more often in yesterday's post, so now I want to know more about them.⁣

"The next HP" is definitely a no from me.⁣

Remember to tag me so I can see your response posts!

Curiosity Killed the Cat: Why do you read?

This is my question on my blog. Find out on my blog on why I read and maybe share why you do too.

Kappadeemom Two reasons for me: I grew up and only child and was very lonely. Books kept me company and the library was my babysitter many days. Second, I read a lot mystery/suspense because I am someone who LOVES to solve puzzles. I am a detective in my imagination! 4y
LinesUponAPage @Kappadeemom you are a modern day Matilda! Also, a Nancy Drew! Love it. I‘m sorry you were lonely. I felt lonely and there were 5 of us kids. No one liked to do the things i did. We could‘ve been reading buddies. 😀 4y
Kappadeemom @Lifeisasnap I actually HAVE 6 kids and my husband thinks it‘s hilarious! Yep, I was super jealous of Nancy Drew! 4y
LinesUponAPage @Kappadeemom what a loving full house you must have now! Happy New Year to you and your family! 4y

Mehso-so

I've made it through the Top 9. Written from viewpoint of 14 year old boy so of course there's going to be 14 year old boy humor & sexual references. Would expect no less. Found it's descriptions of life on 'The Rez' quite depressing. I didn't love it or hate it so calling it So-So.That's strictly for Book Content.
Question: Do you factor in Author's Bad Behavior when you review a book???🤔

LibrarianRyan I do not factor in author behavior when I review a book. It might cause me to not read their book. But I read this the first year it made the BBL. I agree with you. I can not figure out why people are so hyped over it. I have read better. 5y

The Beauty Myth | Naomi Wolf
post image

RANT WARNING!!! This sentence sums up this entire chapter. I‘m actually going to skip the second 2/3 of it, because it‘s really just beating the argument over the head and reiterating my desire to explore goddesses as opposed to gods.

GingerAntics Additionally, the argument in this chapter hinges on the stereotype that America has always been a really religious nation. I think Wolf needs to have a little chat with Manseau to get her history straight. On top of that, as far as I can see, Republican leaders are STILL holding women to these moral standards. Why does it matter what a woman wore when she was raped? Why does it matter what a woman wore when she was sexually harassed? 6y
GingerAntics These archaic beliefs are still alive and well, and you better believe they are more than supported by most mainstream Christian denominations today. These aren‘t replacement beliefs (sorry Wolf), they‘re tandem beliefs. #thebeautymyth #naomiwolf #religion 6y
GingerAntics I just have one question: Why is it that goddess religions don‘t look down on men, but see them as equal partners in the world; all the while, god based religions have to make enemies out of women? Are men really this insecure? #questionoftheday (edited) 6y

Exbrarian Yes, we are. 6y
GingerAntics @Exbrarian really? You guys have all the power. You get to ask, all the time, what we were wearing. What‘s to feel insecure about? Women are, generally speaking, very loving people. We just want to love you for all your wonderful qualities...and maybe ignore the not so hot ones. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 6y
GingerAntics @Exbrarian I just want to hug every man in the world now...although, admittedly, statistically, there are some bad men out there and that could lead to some bad outcomes. I wonder how many serial killers I‘d end up hugging...🤔 Maybe I can skip them. 6y
GingerAntics @Exbrarian not that only men can be serial killers, just that if you were to hug 50% of the world‘s population no matter their gender or anything else, just think of how many serial killers you‘d hug (and hopefully live to tell the tale). How many abusers. How many truly evil people. Wow, this took a dark turn. 6y
Exbrarian I think it‘s because a woman laughed at one of us once. I lost my handbook, but I‘m pretty sure that‘s the reason. 6y
Exbrarian Also, maybe if we hugged more serial killers they might not kill so many people? 6y
Exbrarian I‘m not actually volunteering to hug serial killers. I 6y
GingerAntics @Exbrarian oh yeah, she was one of the jerks. There‘s a few in every lot. That is a good theory on serial killers, though. I think we might have a hard time finding volunteers for that gig, though. I‘m not volunteering to hug them either. MAYBE the ones that aren‘t psychopaths but just angry. Maybe. But still no. 6y
julesG @Exbrarian @GingerAntics - Interesting and funny! If I wasn't this truly reserved with strangers, I'd hug more people. I might not distinguish between good or evil, just offer some hugs. 6y
GingerAntics @julesG just be careful of the serial killers. Safety first. 6y
julesG We don't have a lot of those here in Germany these days. 6y

My #currentreads are all off of the #libbyapp so no real cute pictures. Just a sweet collage of parts of their covers ✌🏻 #questionoftheday How many books do you like to read at a time?

Zee3 Usually just one at a time 6y
Naj Two. A fiction and a non-fiction. 6y
Doughtah @Zee3 Nice! R u reading and enjoying anything atm? 6y
See All 11 Comments
Doughtah @Naj ooh, that‘s a good call. Any particular reason why? 6y
Naj @Doughtah I'm trying to read more non-fiction in general, so this seems a good way to stay on track. 6y
Zee3 @Doughtah in trudging through the Toymakers atm. I was hoping it would be magical similar to the night circus, but not really doing it for me. I finished the Nightingale recently, which was great! 6y
Doughtah @Zee3 ugghh, i hate when books hit that trudgery threshold. 😩 good luck with the toymakers! Who wrote the Nightingale though? 😄 im always on the lookout for new books ✨ 6y
Doughtah @Naj noice! I tend to creep thru nonfiction (ive been working on two of the same for more than 8 months lol). 6y
Zee3 @Doughtah written by Kristen Hannah. I love WWII books 6y
rockpools Way too many! I‘m considering limiting myself to a 2-book-at-a-time january (1 print, 1 audio) to see if it helps me get through bigger books... but I don‘t know if I have the will power 😂😂 6y
Doughtah @RachelO aww man, if it works, congrats! Ive tried limiting myself but (as u can see by the four above lol) it doesnt work for me 😝 6y
