Ive been running through books since I got in the airplane for vacation and it‘s been a fantastic reading time with 8 books read (or reread in three cases) in the past 12 days. In the top left is my #bookhaul for the winter and the two lower pics are the books I‘ve read! ♥️🙌🏻 well, i‘m still working through Thick as Thieves, but I‘m so close!!

Cailey_Mac I‘ve been wanting to read the series on the right; how is it so far? 11mo
Doughtah @Cailey_Mac they‘re very quick reads for me (ive got nothing else to do some days except read) and i really enjoy the variations in storytelling between each book. None of the stories so far are told the same way or by the same perspective even if the cast of characters stay the same. I‘d really recommend it to u if u like fantasy and thieves and myths and really cool worldbuilding 😃 11mo
Cailey_Mac @Doughtah OOOOOO why yes I do enjoy books like that! Thanks! I think I‘ll pick this up soon☺️☺️ 11mo

I‘ve finished The Queen of Attolia and have started in on Uprooted. ♥️♥️ I‘m only 12% in and I‘m already loving the style of magic happening in this. Particularly the part where slurring or shortening a magical word changes how the magic takes effect! Can‘t wait to continue with it!! #currentlyreading

batsy I really enjoyed this one! 11mo
Doughtah @batsy i‘m loving it so much so far 😃😃 have u picked up her latest book, Spinning Silver? 11mo

Wild Magic | Tamora Pierce

Pickpick

For all that it‘s an oldy, it is a goody too. Especially since i am chockfull of nostalgia. After starting and finishing Tempests and Slaughter, I‘ve had a hankering for Tamora Pierce‘s books. Here‘s my first all finished! Now to start Wolf-Speaker! 😄

The photo‘s of Wild Magic, but I promise this is about Tempests and Slaughter: there are certainly some discrepancies between the Numair of the new series and The Immortals (the first book Numair appeared in). Mostly in what spells Numair is good at and able to handle and what Arram (his younger self) is good at. Minor problems, but discrepancies I‘m finding nonetheless. 😢

I‘m halfway through my latest read: Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo and I‘m loving it. It has a bit of extra heart compared to Six of Crows in a couple of ways that has my heart growing. #friyayintro Crooked Kingdom is my 31st book of the year if I can finish it in the next couple days! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 If you like coming of age stories set in fantastical worlds, check out Tempests and Slaughter. It‘s the story of Arram Draper before he was Numair Salmalin (a beloved character from Pierce‘s previous Tortall books). This first book is set in his early teens and has all I‘ve come to love about Pierce books. Whether you‘ve read her before or are just now discovering Tortall, I could not rec this book more!

so im #currentlyreading the first of #tamorapierce ‘s new series and y‘all!! This is such a fun drop back into Pierce‘s Tortall ♥️♥️ if u love Pierce‘s books where growing up can be gross, hard, and magical, then this one is for you. I think (tho im reading it from a non-newbies eyes) this isnt a bad book to jump into Pierce‘s Tortall universe. ☺️

Doughtah @Naj ooh, that‘s a good call. Any particular reason why? 12mo
Naj @Doughtah I'm trying to read more non-fiction in general, so this seems a good way to stay on track. 12mo
Zee3 @Doughtah in trudging through the Toymakers atm. I was hoping it would be magical similar to the night circus, but not really doing it for me. I finished the Nightingale recently, which was great! 12mo
Doughtah @Zee3 ugghh, i hate when books hit that trudgery threshold. 😩 good luck with the toymakers! Who wrote the Nightingale though? 😄 im always on the lookout for new books ✨ 12mo
Doughtah @Naj noice! I tend to creep thru nonfiction (ive been working on two of the same for more than 8 months lol). 12mo
Zee3 @Doughtah written by Kristen Hannah. I love WWII books 12mo
RachelO Way too many! I‘m considering limiting myself to a 2-book-at-a-time january (1 print, 1 audio) to see if it helps me get through bigger books... but I don‘t know if I have the will power 😂😂 12mo

This book is interesting for sure (loads of sex, violence, and creepiness (à la Lolita) heads up), but it‘s not one I‘m loving. It could be that the fictional world seems boring (ripped straight from Japanese history) or that the storytelling is not very emotional (the great man did the thing and said some words and people cried - it‘s dry, i guess?) or something else. Ive got 15% left so we‘ll see how it wraps up. #currentlyreading

Ragnarok Unwound by Kristin Jacques ⚡️⚡️⚡️/5
I‘ve finished Ragnarok Unwound and I gotta say that it was a fun, fast read. There were a couple aspects of the boom I loved: fighting fate, myths mixing with each other, and women saving the world. There was one aspect that was meh for me: the heteronormativity of the language used in the book. If u like myths and modernity mixing, I‘d recommend this if you wanted a quick, light read.

This was such a sensuous and fantastic book. As someone who enjoyed the movie, I was a bit biased going in. I think, though, that even if you haven't seen the movie, you'd still enjoy the book. It's a fairytale with long descriptions (this is one of the few critiques I have of it, the descriptions were very long and I feel like that could def turn some folks off) and if you like that sort of story, I can't recommend The Shape of Water enough.

The wonderful thing about ‘The Shape of Water‘ is that it provides even more insight into the characters. While the movie leaves plenty to interpretation and in the unspoken things said between the characters, the book is chockful of these little internal revelations that give the characters their shine. All this to say I‘m love the book. ♥️
