Pickpick

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. In this short novel, Ella lives on an island that worships the creator of that sentence. As letters fall off the monument, residents live without these letters and leave for violations. A contest starts to reinstate the alphabet. If you like word play you will enjoy this book. #shortbook #quickread They communicate with the #bare minimum of letters. #uncannyoctober

christineandbooks I loved this book! So fun but so thought-provoking... 7y
Blaire @christineandbooks yes! Totally agree - got it from library because it was short and I need a "D" author, and it is unexpectedly thought provoking. 7y
Blaire Meant to add - also read for #lrc2017 #rorygilmorelist 7y

Catching up on posting my #litsy2017readingchallenge card...forgot my last bunch of books! I absolutely LOVE the sarcasm of Sedaris - if you have an odd, somewhat demented sense of humour, you will totally connect with anything written by David Sedaris. ❤ #rorygilmorelist #metalkprettyoneday

TheCanuckReader << odd and demented...love Sedaris! 7y
CuriousG @TheCanuckReader Do you also like Douglas Coupland? I feel like the same sense of humour leads to enjoyment of both authors 😁 7y
TheCanuckReader I have several of his books but haven't read them yet... Will let you know :) 7y
Cconnolly I have an odd, demented sense of humor and can't believe I'm just now discovering him! 7y
CuriousG I have many of his books yet to read @Cconnolly - but I have no doubt if you describe your sense of humour this way, you will enjoy his writing! If you haven't already read anything by the Blogess (Jenny Lawson), or Douglas Coupland, they are also hilarious in disturbing/strange ways 7y

I'm not sure what made me pick this up yesterday. Maybe missing the family members that have passed. Probably some worries about the future. But I'm glad I've finally read this devastating book. All the stars, feels, and tissues.

kspenmoll More than difficult book to read; we still read/teach it in our high school. In case you missed this, thought I would post article about his son. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/05/12/world/europe/elie-wiesels-only-son-steps-u... 7y
BookInMyHands @kspenmoll Great article, thanks for posting! 7y
TheBookbabeblog84 Night is one of my favorite books; but this book was so difficult to read. 7y

Megabooks Such a hard read! 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @kspenmoll Thank you for the article. I'm glad to hear Eliezer's son has taken up his work in the way that suits his life, and that he reconnected with his faith. And it's incredibly important that we keep teaching this book for subsequent generations. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @TheBookbabeblog84 @Booksandcooks It's a book to read at the "right" moment, and reread often. Sure is devastating. 7y
Cinfhen This is the one book, that continues to gut me EVERY TIME. Interestingly, I had dinner Friday night with Steve Jackson, the nephew of Elie Wiesel who is mentioned in the article. Steve is a wonderful guy...brilliant and charming and a neurosurgeon to boot! He tells the most amazing stories about his uncle, who sadly passed away this summer. @kspenmoll 7y
kspenmoll @Cinfhen Thanks for sharing your dinner experience- makes me feel how truly small & connected the world is; we certainly are on Litsy 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen That's so cool! There's nothing like directly hearing stories about such a cherished human being. 7y
Cinfhen So true @BarbaraTheBibliophage @kspenmoll Have a wonderful day ladies 💕💕 7y

Finished this one today for #LRC #RoryGilmoreList. I liked it but not as much as I thought I would. My favorite part was the chapter about airplane crashes.

I enjoyed this, but it wasn't life changing or especially memorable. The story felt a bit fragmented, and I was hoping to read more about the grittiness of NYC restaurants. I learned a lot about the politics and skills that go into culinary work. I also learned some interesting facts about home cooking!

intothehallofbooks @Ruri_kaichou I think it's fantastic! But before you use your credit--I have the Jane Eyre ebook on my Kindle where I bought it for free recently. When I checked audible.com for the audio to add for the discounted price there were several discounted choices. This one was only $1.99. 😊 7y
Ruri_kaichou @intothehallofbooks GOOD TO KNOW! 👍👍👍 I can't remember if I have the e-book but I will get it. Thanks!!! 7y
intothehallofbooks @Ruri_kaichou Yay! You're so welcome!! 7y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!! I knew this book would be beautiful, powerful, well-written, but I did not know how gripping it would be as well. Try the author-read audiobook, I think her voice adds so much to the text. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Well, this was a haunting read. I see no parallels between the themes in this book and real life. None at all. 🤥 #LitsyAtoZ #LRC11 #rorygilmorelist #24in48

Bambolina_81 This was a really unnerving read for me! 7y
