Not a Happy Family | Shari Lapena

#NotAHappyFamily #ShariLapena #BookSpinBingo

In this family, everyone is keeping secrets--especially the dead. Brecken Hill in upstate New York is an expensive place to live. You have to be rich to have a house there. And they don't come much richer than Fred and Sheila Merton. But even all their money can't protect them when a killer comes to call. The Mertons are brutally murdered the night after an Easter Dinner with their three adult kids.

EadieB Who, of course, are devastated.
Or are they? They each stand to inherit millions. They were never a happy family, thanks to their capricious father and neglectful mother, but perhaps one of them is more disturbed than anyone knew. Did one of them snap after that dreadful evening? Or was it someone else that night who crept in with the worst of intentions?

EadieB It must be. After all, if one of your siblings was a psychopath, you'd know. Wouldn't you?
This book is a major family drama. They are all lying and could have killed their parents. Your job is narrowing it down to find out who did it. There are chapters with POV's from each character and I kept changing my mind. They are all guilty as far as I was concerned but in the end it is a surprise who did it!

Andrew65 She us usually writes a good mystery, pleased to hear she‘s keeping a good standard. Excellent review. 1y
EadieB @Andrew65 Yes I love her books. She's great! 1y
Andrew65 @EadieB Always equate her for some reason with Alice Feeney, possibly because I discovered them around the same time. If you‘ve not read Daisy Darker by her I strongly recommend it, because I know you don‘t have enough books to read. 🤣 1y
TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! 1y
EadieB @Andrew65 You‘re funny! But I did put it on hold to read! 1y

The newest Lapena is already MUCH more satisfying than the newest Feeney was, and I‘m not even halfway through. (Honestly, it was more satisfying within the first five pages. 😬) I‘m pretty excited that it‘s my day off and I can just sit and read with no interruptions. 😍 #notahappyfamily #sharilapena

The Couple Next Door | Shari Lapena

#TheCoupleNextDoor totally reminded me of Madeleine McCain case. A couple goes to dinner next door leaving their 6 months old daughter behind while she is asleep. They take rounds coming back home and making sure she is alright. And then she is not. She is kidnapped. What happens next is a lot of twists and turns. It keeps you glued to the book till the end. A good mystery read.
My rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Stephanie and Patrick Kilgour are happily married with twin daughters until Erica shows up and accuses Patrick of killing his first wife, Lindsay, and their baby. They did die but it was claimed to be an accident. But is Patrick telling the truth? This is a perfectly paced and plotted whodunit and had me guessing all the way through. I‘m looking forward to reading her next one. Recommended.

Andrew65 Enjoy her books but not read this one. 👏👏👏 3y
EadieB @Andrew65 I believe it‘s her most recent book. Fell behind in the readathon as had to babysit for a couple of days and painters are back at my house. 3y
Andrew65 @EadieB My work schedule, and side effects from vaccination (left me too tired) has affected my involvement in the Readathon, 3y
EadieB @Andrew65 I know the feeling! Got my first shot of Moderna last Sunday. Getting 2nd shot on 11th of April. Had sore arm, headache and fatigue but did feel better after that. 3y

Karen Krupp can‘t remember the past after she had a car accident. What was she doing in that part of town? Is Karen capable of murder? Her husband and her best friend are wondering about her. Does she have a secret past? Good writing. This was an easy read and a twisty page-turner. Kept me guessing. Suspenseful. Recommended to those who love psychological thrillers.

Someone We Know | Shari Lapena

More twists and turns then a country road. This book delves into a close-knit community whose lives are suddenly turned upside down and put through a microscope after a mans wife goes missing. This book looks into each families lives with their dirty laundry being aired to their unsuspecting neighbours. It contains murder, deceit, adultery and denial, the perfect recipe. #sharilapena #greatbook #lovetoread #bookreview #bookrecommendation

MayJasper I love your country roads analogy. 5y

🌞Working on my tan 🌞 I got a couple pages into this last night, I‘m not far enough into the meat of it yet, this is the 2nd #ShariLapena book I‘ve read and I‘m sensing some common elements with The Couple Next Door. 🧐📚

Unwanted Guest | Shari Lapena

I have read all of Shari's books and couldn't wait to start on this one. It did not disappoint! It was reminiscent of Agatha Christie style murder mysteries. A group of people are stranded at a remote motel in the country over a weekend and 1 by 1 the guests are turning up murdered. Is a guest killing them or the motel owner and his son?? A page turner it had me reading way past my bedtime. #sharilapena #tea_sipping_bookworm
