It's a "breakfast in front of the TV" kind of morning. Don't judge....I need the quiet for half an hour ?

Starting this beast today. It's a long weekend so I'm hoping to make a bit of dent. If I approach it slowly and let it know I'm not afraid of it, I have high hopes I can conquer it by month's end

dylanisreading I love your approach! 🤣 3y

🏳 I've decided to bail on my reading challenges and it feels glorious. I'm just too fickle and hard-headed. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I applaud those who can stick with them. 👏🏻

I'll still complete my own personal goals which includes completing IJ. #slaythebeast

rachelm Good for you! Be true to the reading you need to do :-) 8y
mauveandrosysky I can't do most reading challenges. I need to have the freedom to read whatever I want. (Though reading a long, challenging book with a buddy is one thing that has always worked well for me.) 8y
BibliophileMomma I've bailed on the ones on Goodreads. I'm still doing #litzyatoz because I've only got a few left and the #litsyreadingchallenge because I only have a couple of boxes left. But all the Goodreads ones I was trying to do I abandoned. I'm focusing more on my reading and on the #buddyread monthly reads I started. 8y

saresmoore Completing IJ is a way bigger win than any reading challenge I'm doing! Way to take the pressure off—you have a wonderfully full plate. 8y
LeahBergen Woo hoo!! I'm doing the reading challenges but I haven't preplanned ONE BOOK for any of them. I'm checking letters (and bingo categories) off as I read whatever I've randomly chosen to read. We'll see how this works later in the year but I'm putting zero pressure on myself. I'm way too much of a fickle reader to plan ahead. I AM finishing IJ, though. 👍🏼👍🏼 8y
Sace Good for you! I completely understand the need to be free to pick whatever you want. 8y
merelybookish @LeahBergen This is what I've been doing. We'll see when December comes if I will actually bother to read a book by someone whose name starts with X. 😃 8y
KarenUK 🙌🙌🙌💕 8y
rubyslippersreads I had made lists, but I'm not going to stick to them. I guess I prefer to be more of a free-form reader! 😄 8y
britt_brooke @mauveandrosysky That's why the IJ buddy read is working so well for me. I'm getting so much more out of it with multiple insights. 8y
britt_brooke @saresmoore 😁😁😁 I think IJ is what derailed my focus from everything else (but in a good way). 8y
britt_brooke @rubyslippersreads "Free-form reader" - I like that! 8y
manifestsanity Testify! Read harder is fine. I don't need a prescription. 8y
MicheleinPhilly The only one I've committed to doing is #LitsyAtoZ using only books I've owned for a year or more to clear some of the backlog. But I just looked and NONE of the 6 I've read for the challenge are ones I initially selected. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 8y
britt_brooke @LeahBergen That's pretty much what I was doing, too. Not much planning, just ticking off as I went. I think IJ derailed me (in a good way)! 8y
EvieBee 👌🏼 Trying to create a TBR for the year proved to be too trying for me. I'm too much of a mood reader. 8y
GypsyKat I often read by mood, so the only challenges I do are my own personal ones, and I'll do the 24in48 when it rolls around again. 8y
britt_brooke @manifestsanity Also, I now have the RATM song stuck in my head. Not complaining. 8y
britt_brooke @EvieBee84 I'm very much a mood reader, too. 8y
britt_brooke @GypsyKat I always set personal goals, too. 👍🏻👍🏻 They seem like enough. (edited) 8y
britt_brooke @MicheleinPhilly I was doing that one and the same thing kept happening. 😂 8y
coffeenebula Mood readers unite! The only challenge I do is how many books I plan to read this year (50...and already nearly halfway there! Thanks, Litsy!) 8y
britt_brooke @Tiffness83 I understand, my focus has largely been on the IJ buddy read. Love all these awesome buddy reads popping up!! 8y
Cinfhen You go girl... fly without care🦋🦋🦋 8y
Sace You know what I've ended up doing this year @britt_brooke I just sort of picked and choosed (chose?) a bunch of prompts from several challenges across the Internet that were just vague enough for almost anything to fit (example- a book with a cat on the cover.) Sometimes challenge list items are way too specific. I also didn't publicly declare a thing. 😂 I just wrote my list in my journal. 8y
britt_brooke @coffeenebula 🙌🏻🙌🏻 8y
britt_brooke @Sace That's perfect! 👏🏻 8y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen It is oddly freeing! 😁 8y
SharonGoforth 👍👍👏👏👏🎉🎉 Good for you!! I've more or less done the same thing ❤ 8y
Sace @britt_brooke I like feeling productive and like I'm doing something to inhance the already enjoyable activity that is reading. I do love checking things off a list. Challenges are something I enjoy as long as they are of my own design. I think the little rebel in me can't follow someone else's lead. 🙄 8y
GypsyKat @britt_brooke I think personal goals are important, and I also prefer them because it doesn't mean I'm relinquishing control to anyone else. 😂 (edited) 8y
britt_brooke @GypsyKat Part of it is the control, lol! 8y
britt_brooke @SharonGoforth 🙌🏻🙌🏻 8y
wrenaymuhree I never even start reading challenges 😬 every time I think of doing one, I get irritated by all the demands. I don't want to read if it feels like work! 8y
britt_brooke @wrenaymuhree This was the first year I've ever tried one. Not for me. Like you said, it shouldn't feel like work. 8y
LiteraryinPA Good job! If it's stressing you out it's defeating the purpose of reading! 8y
AnnieReads I just read. No plan. 8y
sherryvdh I've been pondering doing the same thing. I just want to enjoy my reading. 8y
LukkiAnn These challenges do not feel right for me. I feel like someone forces me reading and converts it from joy to an obligation ((( 8y
[DELETED] 3216391035 I tried, and just couldn't do it, so I'm with you! 8y
britt_brooke @LukkiAnn That's how they make me feel, too. 8y
Lisaw13 This is my first year doing a challenge and I was so gung-ho because I wanted to break out of my genre and read some great books that I would not have normally read, but it has become work. I'm 2/3 done so I'll probably finish but I don't think I'll do one again. It makes reading not so enjoyable. I salute your white flag! 8y
britt_brooke @Lisaw13 😁🙌🏻 8y
Hooked_on_books You scared me for a minute--I thought you were bailing on the buddy read. Glad to hear you're continuing--I think we're all too invested now to stop. 8y
britt_brooke @Hooked_on_books No way! 😂 I'm in for the long-haul! 8y
MyNamesParadise I'm more than a month behind on the Harry Potter challenge but I'm going at my tortoise pace 😜😜 8y
Suet624 Good for you! I read things on a whim. I walk down an aisle at the library and wait to see what book lights up for me. I'm sure that eventually a reading challenge would feel like an authority figure to me and I would rebel against it. 8y
britt_brooke @Suet624 I'm a whim reader, too! That's why the challenges just won't work. 😁🙌🏻 8y
mischa Yep. They feel like work and the moment I am required to read a book I no longer want to. 8y
britt_brooke @mischa I know, I hate being told what to do! 😁😉 8y

aleatory - depending on the throw of a dice or chance; random

When one first opens Infinite Jest, the odds of actually "slaying the beast" are aleatory.

Dragon A new word for me , I liked how you used it in a sentence. This book is very intimidating 😀 8y
britt_brooke @Dragon It's very intimidating!! 8y
