Williams takes an out-there conceit about indecipherable scrolls found abandoned beneath the subway which he claims he transcribed in a series of meditative trances and received all sorts of spiritual insights about, and crafts it into a cohesive collection that‘s lyrical, rhythmic, and brimming with insights about hip-hop‘s music and culture. He‘s biting, compassionate, and funny in turns as he thinks about politics, economics, and history.
Mi‘kmaw poet's debut explores love, pain, and history. Thomas' poems challenge norms and tell a powerful story about identity, injustice, and a new Canadian tale.
“Life originally came from miles of dead parties, decomposing cardboard, sequins, noise makers and sadness.“

Disturbing. Evocative. Brutal. Beautiful. Gritty.
This is a great collection by spoken-word poet Nicole Blackman. It‘s been years since I last read this but it‘s still one of my favorite poetry collections.

First book finished for #AwesomeAugust #Readathon
I‘m not big on poetry, most of the time I‘ve got no idea what the poets even saying. This was written so easy to understand and I absolutely loved it! The way she uses words to make comparisons that are just weird and funny kind of blew my mind because who thinks that way? It‘s one of those books I want to eat the words to make it mine but I will never be able to write that well. If you enjoy poetry I absolutely suggest you pick this up!
I didn‘t realize how on point this book of poetry would be right now! Gibson tackles gender norms, love, racism and politics in poems that seem simple but pack a punch. A lot of times, the endings would make me gasp, or tear up, or have to close the book to reflect. Amazing read.

I‘m not good with poetry. In fact, this is my first book of poetry I‘ve purchased! Wish me luck! #currentlyreading
