Wildwood Dancing | Juliet Marillier

I love this book. It was my most reread during middle school and rereading it now, 17 years on, hasn't changed it all that much. I'll hopefully be meeting Juliet at a convention soon, so the revisit was comforting. I've not yet read any of her other work so aiming to read some more before then.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had a book of a collection of fairytales when I was younger, and one of my favorite stories in that book was “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” - it‘s the only place I had ever come across that story until now. This was a mesmerizing, horror-tinged recreation of that fairytale; I was fully transported into the pages. I‘ve fallen in love with Erin A. Craig‘s atmospheric storytelling!

This was a reread for me and I loved it all over again! I‘m gonna read a few books before getting to the sequel (pictured), but I needed a refresher. Erin A. Craig is a phenomenal storyteller. The flow of the book, the characters, the SETTING….it was all captivating. 🐙 🌊 ☠️ ✨ “In a manor by the sea, twelve sisters are cursed”

This is a 12 Dancing Princesses retelling that I paired with the original fairy tale for #childrensclassicread2025. It didn't quite live up to my expectations. The first part of the story felt like a different book than the second half. I did enjoy some of the world building, and the horror sequences were done well. The story just needed to be a little more cohesive.

TheBookHippie Oh interesting! I had not heard of this one!!! 10mo

First time reading this fairy tale. I didn‘t get to Grimms original tale but I read these two, the tagged one the better of the two as it felt more in the spirit of a Grimms tale. I enjoyed the illustrations more in the non tagged book but the tale was very simplistic and more cutesy.

TheBookHippie Oh fun!!! 10mo

It‘s so much fun reading the different versions! Each one is slightly different. All the illustrations have been beautiful. Soon I‘ll start the Crown of Twelve: A Twelve Dancing Princesses Novella which is the 1st of the Crowns of the Fae Trilogy ( or novella + duology)
Thanks @TheBookHippie

I saw @Amiable posted her favourite reads from past #AuldLangSpine matches, and I love the idea! As I look forward to reading from @CarolynM's list in 2025, here are my faves from my past awesome matches:

@MeganAnn - The Girls at the Kingfisher Club (historical fiction meets fairy tale retelling at its finest)

@sprainedbrain - Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

@monalyisha - World of Wonders (so good I've read it twice now!)

Cont'd

TheKidUpstairs @Chelsea.Poole - Unlikely Animals (give me a Greek chorus of ghosts and theatre gone wrong any day of the week!)

@Sapphire - Fault Lines (a total surprise hit for me)

MeganAnn What a fun idea! The Girls at the Kingfisher Club remains one of my favorite retellings. And Fault Lines was SO good too! It made my list of 2022 favorites. I definitely need to move Unlikely Animals and World of Wonders up my TBR. 12mo
TheBookHippie World of Wonders is amazing! 12mo
