Is this my umpteenth re-read? Yes. And I don‘t care. This is one of my comfort novels, so I was glad I could use it to fulfill my Double #BookSpin prompt for July. I love Louis and his ever-present quest to simply understand what the point of his existence even is. I love Lestat‘s sassy ass. I‘ll read it again. I‘ve seen me do it.

Wrath has Qhuinn become John's 'Ashtrux Nohtrum'. Retroactive, of course. A neat solution. Lash kills all his adopted vampire family. Z and Phury are the ones who find the family. Butch is called in to do forensics. John and Qhuinn go to Blay's house. John insists that they tell him what is wrong. Blay admits he is in love with Qhuinn. Lessors attack Blay's family while the guys are there and everyone is safe.

TheSpineView Other families are attacked and Qhuinn's Mother, Father and Sister are among the casualties. Though Qhuinn's brother is missing. Lash has plans to destabilize vampire society so it will be easier to destroy them. At the end of the night, John, Qhuinn and Blay find Cormia alone swimming in thebpool 4d

TheSpineView When Phury discovers them, he orders Cormia to get out and go to his bedroom. He is acting as a bonded male and the boys notice. Phury has lost his shit and the bonded male in him is driven to marking her. Later, John goes to check on Cormia and misinterprets what he sees. He thinks Phury forced himself on her and beats up Phury. Phury feels guilty and goes to buy drugs. Rehv goes 'up north' and leaves his tithe and has to deal with the sympath... 4d

TheSpineView He always gets poisoned each time and his body is not recovering like it used to. Lassiter, the Fallen angel, makes a deal with him. In return for a favor he heals Rehvenge. Lash is not like the other lessers, he is able to eat, drink and have sex. TheSpineView I am not surprised about Lash. He is in the perfect place to wreck havoc. Will his need for revenge make his reckless?? The Vampire society doesn't seem prepared like they should be. I also feel think this is not the end of Blay and Qhuinn. 4d

Laughterhp They are not prepared for organized lessers at all! It‘s crazy because I feel like they‘ve been dealing with them forever but have been too wrapped up in all their own drama. 4d

julesG For a society that has been fighting with the lessers since forever they really haven't done much to protect themselves against them. Lash being drunk on his power was to be expected. He's a bully. 3d

5feet.of.fury I liked when Ben Mears is talking about writing his new book and he says something about writing it really gory and detailed to “really rub the reader‘s nose in it” which is funny because that‘s what SK does -but hadn‘t REALLY done yet because this was his 2nd published book. Anyway, I just thought that was interesting, my brain latched on to that tiny detail 4d

BookwormAHN My copy just came in from the library but since this is a reread, one of the things that drove me nuts the first time around was the endless descriptions of scenery 😸 4d

Bookwormjillk I loved the forward (read by King himself in the audiobook.) It took a while for this book to get going. I was a little surprised he was allowed to get away with that even in his second book. I enjoyed it though. Loved the nods to Dracula that he built in. 3d

Karkar The first time I read this book it scared me more than any other book before. But this being my third time thru it was a different read to pick up details that I did not the past times. 3d

TieDyeDude @barkingmadread @5feet.of.fury @Bookwormahn @bookwormjillk @karkar I get the annoyance with a lot of characters, but I think it helps up the stakes of the story; you're not just concerned about a handful of main characters, you worry about the whole town. I thought the same recently with Billy Summers; with the office workers and neighbors in the first part of the story, there is more dread because there are many people you want to be safe 🙂 18h

TieDyeDude I also enjoyed, in this book, seeing the characters figure out which vampire myths would work or not. I like when his characters live in “our world“ and have the same cultural touchstones. There is less “Why would you do that?!“ and more “Is that what I would have done?“ 18h

This was my first time reading this edition of ‘Salem‘s Lot. This book includes a section of deleted scenes from the original manuscript, the short stories One for the Road and Jerusalem‘s Lot, and black and white photography in the section breaks.

This is still one of my favorite vampire novels.
