Master of Murder | Christopher Pike

Bailedbailed

I‘m not sure where I picked up this Christopher Pike book. I enjoyed Pike as a teen but after about 50 pages, I‘m bailing to move on to other reads. This was my #Bookspin for January.

Bookzombie My decorations are still up. I was a little late getting them up in December so I‘m enjoying them a little longer. 2w
Sweettartlaura I LOVED Pike as a teen/even college student. And I‘m re-reading Weekend with my 13 year old niece - some of the references are dated but the story is holding up. But I picked up a more recent one of his in the past decade and … 👎🏻🫤. I finished it. But I was disappointed 😔 2w
Reggie I have a coworker who keeps her tree up all year long and she‘ll just change the ornaments to fit the holiday. 2w

DogMomIrene @Reggie I think my husband may be joining her club. He‘s loving our tree, so it‘s still up. He says until the end of January, but we‘ll see😂😂😂 2w
Bookzombie @Sweettartlaura How fun to be reading with your niece! I think I would like to revisit some of his others like Chain Letter and Witch. This one just wasn‘t doing it for me. 2w
Bookzombie @Reggie I‘m not that committed, lol. Even though after it comes down the house feels kind of bare. I could see doing it with a small tree though. 2w

When I say #auldlangspine is my favorite reading event every year, I mean that I have participated in every iteration of this event & it‘s the thing I most look forward to in January. Some of my all time favorite books have come from this event.
Here are my favorites from the past years:
2024 @Karisimo The Eyes & The Impossible
2023 @xicanti Lessons in Fusion
2022 @JackOBotts Sigh,Gone
2021 @BarbaraJean How Long ‘til Black Future Month
⬇️

MeganAnn 2020 4thhouseontheleft (who doesn‘t seem to be on Litsy anymore? Or changed their handle) Far From the Tree. (edited) 1mo
MeganAnn 2019 @TheKidUpstairs The Namesake. And 2018 @monalyisha Bellweather Rhapsody in the original #freakyfriday event. (edited) 1mo
MeganAnn Every single one of these titles made it on my year‘s list of favorites. Although for some of these years it was hard to choose just one favorite book! Thanks to all of my matches for exposing me to such great reads! & thanks to @TheKidUpstairs and @Amiable for the inspiration to post my favorites! (edited) 1mo

TheKidUpstairs I love seeing the domino books - I think I read Bellweather Rhapsody from your list, I never knew it came from @monalyisha 😁 1mo
Zuhkeeyah Ooo I spy a book from the list you gave me this year! @meganann 1mo
MeganAnn @TheKidUpstairs I love the domino books too! There have been several books I‘ve read based off @monalyisha‘s recommendations or reviews over the years that have ended up on my favorites list. She has stellar taste! 1mo
MeganAnn @Zuhkeeyah definitely! There‘s a couple from my list that I read for #auldlangspine last year. It was hard to choose just one favorite! 1mo
monalyisha Thanks, Megan(s)! 🥰 1mo
Karisimo I‘m so sad that I didn‘t get my list put together in time to participate this year 😢 1mo
BarbaraJean I love this!! I'll have to go back and look at my favorites over the years. I read and loved Far from the Tree from your list, and it went onto my list the following year. Auld Lang Spine is the gift that keeps on giving!! 1mo
JackOBotts I love this, @MeganAnn ~ while I‘m not part of the fun this year, you can bet I‘m peeking at past year matches to screen shot their & their match‘s lists! 💜 Happy reading. And Thank You for such a great list in our year. 🙌🏼 (edited) 1mo
MeganAnn @Karisimo it‘s always such a busy time of year! Check out @JackOBotts comment. I‘ve been having so much fun looking at everyone‘s lists and adding to my TBR. A fun way to semi-participate even though you didn‘t get in on the official event. And I‘d love to see a list of your favorites for the year if you do get a chance to put one together! 1mo
MeganAnn @JackOBotts that‘s such a lovely idea! I love looking at everyone‘s lists. Happy reading and thanks back to you for a wonderful list as well! Sigh, Gone remains one of my absolute favorite books. 1mo
MeganAnn @BarbaraJean it was lovely to revisit all these past lists and choose my favorites. It also made me realize there are still a lot of titles on those lists I want to read and haven‘t gotten to yet! 1mo
Karisimo Thanks @MeganAnn I think I will do that! 1mo

My favorite book of the year! Drew‘s voice is so dryly funny it set me off over and over again. I can‘t get over the reviews interspersed in the text giving it all an over the top feel. Serious “Shameless” vibes made me guffaw on more than one occasion. I loved the fierce protectiveness of the siblings and the insane plan they pulled off together. Amazing! 😂

I liked this one. Dystopia where humans have turned into insects & feed off humans. So🤢

It bills itself a mix of Mad Max & Attack on Titan. I‘ve never seen that latter but feel free to clue me in.

Action-heavy shonen. There may also be an anime of the series.

6 volumes total I think? I am checking out volume 2.

Serotonin Hmm…humans eating humans I‘m okay with. But humans turning into insects? 😵‍💫😨 2mo

A mystical island with even more mystical creatures! But the island natives are not happy to have visitors..

It‘s was ok but I was hoping for a bit more adventure from it.

😍😍 love!!! Wyn was well deep into her trust issues, but I really enjoyed their story and all the tension between her and Three. The side characters were also all important and well-developed. 👍🏼 from me

TorieStorieS I was never a Dana Larson fan, but poor Arthur Castillo deserves Princess Elizabeth! (edited) 4mo
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS I know! Dana is SO annoying in this one. I haven‘t read the SVT book about Arthur in 20+ years but my man Arthur definitely deserves better than Dana! 😆 4mo

This Teen/YA outing is an enemies-to-love story. It was cute with good humor, a lovable heroine and was an overall good read. Blythe and Briggs, as neighbors, grew up together as rivals/pranksters but at one point Blythe developed a crush on Briggs which was abruptly and humiliatingly severed. Now after five years of not seeing him, Briggs has returned following his father‘s death to try and salvage his family‘s estate from debt. Blythe, also in🔻

robinb a similar financial situation, is trying to market her own innovative apiary business to secure investors. As the two realize that they are working toward basically the same basic goal, Blythe convinces Briggs to solicit for her business through his wealthy connections while she will help secure a wealthy fiancé for him.
My favorite things about this story were the humor between the protagonists/co-stars, the strength, gumption and caring nature?

robinb of Blythe, and Briggs‘ growth arc through the story (I started off as not his biggest fan, which I thought would be a dealbreaker, but I ended up applauding him). At first, the sometimes more modern vernacular and eschewing of some of the traditions/mores of the time threw me, but I got past that.

All in all, I enjoyed this one. 4/5⭐️

Teen fiction. A little dark but also funny and heart-warming. Two teenage sisters cover up their mom's death so that they and their little brother can stay together instead of being sent to their different fathers. They discover that mom had some shady schemes going. Some things seemed implausible but I enjoyed the story. Good character development and setting.

My brain was awful to me yesterday and today is not looking so hot either. I just want to lay in bed and read my book, but I have a day job.
