This RF novel is written by Beverly Cleary( my favorite children's author). This book is one of many if the Ramona Quimby series. It is great for RA, IR, and AS. This novel holds a National Book award. I was first introduced to this book as a RA with my third grade teacher, and it certainly did foster my love for reading.

DominiqueL For the classroom, I would have the students compete an author study using edu.glogster.com. Cleary herself, also provides a teacher's guide for the Ramona series. http://www.beverlycleary.com/docs/beverlyclearyteachingguide.pdf The website provides extended activities for the books. This HF novel is great for a LC, and IR I love this book. I recall first reading it in the 6th grade and it has always been a book that I constantly think about. It is about a girl, Hannah, who hates attending her family's Passover Seder. She does not appreciate or care about her culture and the past. During the Seder, she is transported back in time to WWII to experience the Holocaust in a concentration camp.

DominiqueL http://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewResourceLesson/Preview/29360 Cpalms provides a lesson on how and why the setting change in the book has an impact on the characters and the story.

Pay it Forward is a HF novel written by Catherine Ryan Hyde. This book is great for IR and LC. The novel is about a 12 year old boy named Trevor whose class was given the challenge by his teacher to "create an idea to change the world and do it". Trevor decides that he is going to do three big favors for three different people.

DominiqueL When they ask him how can they repay him, he tells them to "Pay it forward" and do something equally as nice for three more people. This book is great as it teaches students about how one person can make a big impact, it also teaches the value of kindness. 6y

A Whole New Ballgame is a RF Sunshine State Younger Readers award nominated novel. This novel is about two best friends, Rip and Red, who are now fifth graders. They struggle with the adjustment because their new teacher, who also happens to be their new basketball coach, isn't like ones they have had before;

DominiqueL He has a lot of tattoos and piercings, doesn‘t believe in homework or tests and would rather be reading aloud to the class or having them free read. Rip is out of his comfort zone, but Red is struggling even more. Red has autism and he needs things to be a specific way. Through this book, the two friends have to help one another overcome some of their struggles and get through the fifth grade. 6y
DominiqueL This book is fantastic because it is teaching students that people are much more than the simple labels that they are given. I absolutely love this story and the illustrations are really cool. This book is great for IR, RA, and LC. Rip and Red have a best friend handshake, and I think that it would be really fun to as a class learn the handshake. 6y
