Day 19 of #riotgrams - favorite school read. Don‘t know what I‘ve done with my copy (so have a DVD cover and other plays instead), but my pick would be Much Ado About Nothing. I just clicked with Beatrice and Benedick, and had the great joy of seeing two local stage productions while still in grade school, which is probably why I actually understood and loved this play. I didn‘t appreciate most Shakespeare, but Much Ado About Nothing was my jam.

pickI enjoyed this one - the structure was great, and I liked the author's humor & self-awareness. It gave me some thought-provoking questions to ask myself about how I measure success personally. Plus my dog liked it.
One of the things making this book enjoyable is the author's sense of humor.
pickReally unique. This is a violent, very odd science fiction title that I enjoyed IMMENSELY. It's definitely not for every reader. I like what Hawkins did with the theme of resilience, and just his pure imaginative creation - this felt new and different. (Nothing is new under the sun, blah blah blah, don't @ me.) I very much liked how it ended, particularly that the conclusion was not where I thought it might have been.
pickPretty good - interesting look at the White House & inner machinery of campaigns and operations from an uncommon perspective. I liked that it was organized around principles/attributes rather than chronology. The ending felt somewhat rushed, not as tight as the first three-quarters. Overall - would recommend it. Another #bookriot #AllTheBooks rec!

pickI thought this was a book of essays about contemporary female sexuality in America, which it is, but I didn't know to expect the surpassingly beautiful writing. I've only been caught off-guard in this way by a few other books in my life; I plan to purchase my own copy after I return this one to the library. Also I need to read everything else Emily Witt has written. Thank you @rebeccaschinsky for rec'ing this on the @bookriot #AllTheBooks podcast!
pickRead on the advice of @bookriot peeps - mostly @rebeccaschinsky & Jeff. It has solid advice, & I like Newport's style - logical & straightforward, like a mathematical proof (on brand, as he's a CS professor.) I can tell he wrote this before Deep Work - not as polished of writing. To oversimplify, the premise demolishes the adage "do what you love, & the money will follow" and substitutes "build your competence & the love (and money) will follow."
Library & bookstore haul for the week - plus a 🐶 who can't keep her face out of pictures. In her defense, it is a darn cute face.
