Here‘s my tentative stack for #24in48 #readathon - I‘ll be getting a late start today because of life, but I‘m stocked up on quick reads!
pickA series of short comics following the students of a boarding school for mutant teens with magical powers, the panels are angsty, funny, whimsical, grounded, and relatable all at once. Mostly black and white illustrations but some splashes of color here and there.
so-soI thought 💭while it had a lot of potential and was also rather humorous at points it was rather scatterbrained. I felt as if parts were also trying to hard tbh *sigh*. I really wanted to like this more than I did, but unfortunately it was a bit of a let down especially artistically 🎨. Oh well I do appreciate certain elements though so... 3 🌟🌟🌟... 🤷🏻♀️
I laughed out loud at half the pages in this comic. Definitely recommend for anyone who wants a quirky read.

pickSuch a quirky collection of comic strips! This book revolves around the students of the SuperMutant Magic Academy - but there‘s no real plot or even explanation for the school. You just go along for the ride and enjoy the weirdness! If you have an odd sense of humour this is the one for you.

I don't want to label this a so-so officially because I feel like I am the problem. It sounded SO up my alley but...I just didn't 'get' it. Then today in bookclub I heard what others experienced and loved and I feel more hopeful now that on reread or for the right person, this would click. The standalone 1-page snapshots set an interesting pace.
But don't fall for the Harry Potter comparison: it's teen angsty - more John Hughes than JK Rowling 😉
so-soI liked parts of this, but other bits fell flat.
