I read this book when I was around 9. It was one of the first books that had a real lasting impact on me and the way I saw the world. After watching the recent BBC series (18 years later!) I've had an urge to revisit it.

What books had a lasting effect on you when you were younger?

At 933 pages I thought this book was going to take some commitment...but I found myself flying through it and when I finally turned the last page I craved more. The scope of this novel was ambitious - spanning a century and focusing on at least eight different protagonists, but Haratischvilli makes it all feel effortless. Definitely in my top 3 favourite books, and I feel like I've only scratched the surface with this first read.

This was a genuinely enjoyable read but more so for the ideas contained within it than for the actual writing. It read more like a series of short stories or a play, and I often found myself getting irritated when simple ideas were repeatedly overemphasised as if the reader couldn't be trusted to make their own inferences. I think something may have gotten lost in translation. Still, it was interesting and entertaining so not a total pan.

Starting a new one tonight. The Little Prince is one of my all time favourites so I'm interested to read this.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one. I was immediately seized by the cover design and wasn't disappointed. Too often children's picture books are overlooked because of their young audience, but in Fierce Bad Rabbits, Clare Pollard analyses them with the respect and tenderness deserving of the tales that shape us.

Really thought I was going to love this but it was awful. There were times when the writing was so cringy I had to force myself to keep reading. I got 3/4 of the way through it because I was captive on an eight hour flight, but even then it just got to a point where I couldn't keep going. I have now put it on a community shelf at the apartment I'm staying at. Hopefully someone else might like it.

I knew I'd like this. It's somewhere in between Tithe by Holly Black, which was my favourite book as a teenager, and Neil Gaiman's American Gods.

I'm was reading Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King but it's dragging. For me, it's one of those books that I have to nudge myself to pick up rather than one I can't put down.
I was idly browsing in Waterstones with my hubby today and this jumped out at me. I picked it up and was instantly sold. I haven't felt so randomly drawn towards a book for years and I'm so excited to read it. Stephen King will have to wait a little while.

I've always admired art, but have never felt informed enough to really get the most out of it. Hopefully this beautiful little book will go a way towards changing that 😊

Considering it was first published nearly 70 years ago, this book had a lot of really incredible foresight and raises some interesting ethical questions about the future of mankind and what it means to be human. I found the repetitive structure a little boring at times, and had to force myself to focus on several occasions but I can see why this is considered a sci-fi classic.

The robot in this part of the book reminded me a little of my husband. He's a very logical man and if he has reached a conclusion using his formidable reason, there is no convincing him otherwise!
