The creators of the New York Times bestselling picture books Rosie Revere, Engineer and Iggy Peck, Architect are back with a story about the power of curiosity in the hands of a child who is on a mission to use science to understand her world. Ada Twist, Scientist, from powerhouse team Andrea Beaty and David Roberts, is a celebration of STEM, perseverance, and passion. Like her classmates, builder Iggy and inventor Rosie, scientist Ada, a character of color, has a boundless imagination and has always been hopelessly curious. Why are there pointy things stuck to a rose? Why are there hairs growing inside your nose? When her house fills with a horrific, toe-curling smell, Ada knows its up to her to find the source. Not afraid of failure, she embarks on a fact-finding mission and conducts scientific experiments, all in the name of discovery. But, this time, her experiments lead to even more stink and get her into trouble! Inspired by real-life makers such as Ada Lovelace and Marie Curie, Ada Twist, Scientist champions girl power and women scientists, and brings welcome diversity to picture books about girls in science. Touching on themes of never giving up and problem solving, Ada comes to learn that her questions might not always lead to answers, but rather to more questions. She may never find the source of the stink, but with a supportive family and the space to figure it out, shell be able to feed her curiosity in the ways a young scientist should. Iggy Peck and Rosie Revere have earned their places among the most beloved childrens characters, and they have inspired countless kids and adults to follow their dreams and passions. Now in her own charming and witty picture book, determined Ada Twist, with her boundless curiosity for science and love of the question Why?, is destined to join these two favorites. The book is the perfect tool to remind both young girls and women that they have the intelligence and perseverance to achieve their dreams.

We have a book basket that I put seasonal books in and I just added new beers to celebrate Women‘s History month. Ada Twist & Mae Among the Stars (she‘s 5 and says she wants to be an astronaut) are my daughter‘s absolute favorite books. My husband is a scientist so we try and add books about women scientists. #Integrateyourbookshelf

“Ada Twist, Scientist”, RF, is written by STEM advocate Andrea Beaty. It is a New York Times Bestseller. This book can be used for good partner reading or as an introduction to an Author Study. The main character is Ada Twist, an inquisitive little girl. She spends her days asking questions and coming up with solutions to not-so big problems. However, she is met with a challenge and depends on her passion and her family to push her to keep on!

Ada Twist, Scientist by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts is an incredibly entertaining SF read for students in any elementary level. It promotes curiosity and wonder in the most creative way possible. The perfect teaching strategy for this must-have book would be CR. All students will enjoy this wonderful book, but students who particularly love the STEM subjects will feel identified with little Ms. Ada Twist. #UCFLAE3414F19

I missed out on these, which were published a few years after Maya stopped reading picture books. An excellent STEM #picturebook featuring girls in science, told in verse and quite captivating. The illustrations show lovely detail if you look closely: Ada matching numbers to how many appendages an animal has (she gave an 🐘 5, including his trunk), blocks with chemical elements printed on them, etc.

#BBRC #a2z Couldn‘t choose just one A book!

ravenlee There‘s a new chapter book series with these characters, too. There are two so far, one with Rosie Revere as the MC and the second starring Ada. I think it‘s called The Questioneers. 5y
alisiakae @ravenlee Thank you, I‘ll look it up! My daughter is on the cusp of MG/YA, but she likes to dip back into the younger books occasionally when she‘s bored and I have taken away electronics. 😈 😂 5y
ravenlee It‘s probably a little young for her, but maybe for a quick zip of a read? My not-quite-six-year-old advanced reader loves them. She was thrilled to find book two recently, when I had no idea it was out. 5y

Ada Twist is a curious child who wants to know how the world works. She asks questions upon questions, and leaves a mess in her wake. Her parents wish she would give it a break! But in the end they understand they have to feed her curiosity not crush it in their hands. An amazing rhyming picture book that will inspire anyone to ask questions like a scientist.

Published in 2016 and illustrated by David Roberts, this modern fantasy tells the journey of a young girl who is destined to explore the world. Although one might not classify this as a modern fantasy right away, the reader can see that the story is logical and consistent with the framework Beaty has created. This story is so relatable when you see such a curious child because as a future teacher i‘ve encountered many kiddos who always ask “why?”

#ReadingResolutions Day 15: Perfect for #👩🏻‍🔬prompt, Ada Twist did not speak until she was three years old with her first word being “Why?” I also like how it was shown that her questions led to more questions that required empirical investigation for them to be answered adequately. The fact that race/ethnicity is also a non-issue is a demonstration of the remarkable progress of modern picturebooks. My full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-dAl

My favorite in this series, easily. Ada is quirky and smart and inquisitive and frustrating, and her great parents are trying their hardest to deal with a good, but not always easy, kid. After reading this to my 9-year old, we have determined that she now has another possible career path - scientist. The other is philosopher. The kid questions everything. Her entire life is an existential crisis. So we get Ada in this house.

Picked these up from the library this past weekend to read with my 10 yr old daughter. I wanted her to know there's more out there for women than just being a singer or model (not that there's anything wrong with those careers). She enjoyed them and I absolutely loved them. This RF book is a #1 New York Times bestseller about a little second grader named Ada who has always been very curious about the world. She uses science to try to answer her countless questions by creating hypotheses and experimenting as much as she could, even if her curiosity leads trouble sometimes. This book is great to encourage students to follow their curiosity and passion, and persevere even if they hit roadblocks.

Ada Twist, Scientist is a SF book. It is about a little girl who is so curious about the world around her and she is always asking questions and doing science experiments. I think this book is a great RA so teachers can show it is important to ask questions and learn about what is happening around you. I love that at the end the parents and brother embrace her and want to help her learn as much as she can. #ucflae3414f17

MeghanW EL strategy 1: teach questioning for clarification. UDL strategy 3.3: guide information processing, visualization, and manipulation. I think these are both great strategies.
