I consider this an intro into becoming a consumer of all things dark and spooky. I adored this series as a kid and the fandom lives on with my 2nd grader. #scarathlondailyprompts #missing #teamslaughter

Who remember the kid‘s book, Miss Nelson Is Missing?

The Honors Drama class at Maya‘s school is performing the play this week. Tonight was opening night, and MJ was a rockstar in her role as Elvis!

It‘s been a looong 2 years since she was last on stage and for a while we thought this show would be cancelled as well. The smiles and pure joy on her face (under a mask) to be performing again made this mama‘s heart VERY happy.

mom2bugnbee YES! So glad that kids are getting to perform again! My girl is rehearsing for her first musical in two years. What a cute book to adapt! Break legs, everyone! 2y
SayersLover Ooh, Miss Nelson is Missing was one of the books at my grandma‘s house. I always found it a fun one. A play of that sounds like a great idea for kids 🤩 @4thhouseontheleft 2y

Who remembers Miss Nelson!? Decided to take a trip down memory lane with these classics this cold afternoon. Miss Nelson's class is out of control until the scary Miss Swamp steps in and takes over the class for a bit. Miss Nelson comes back to a much better behaved classroom! Such fun books!

My mom was a teacher and she always loved reading this book to her kids on the first day of class. It taught them respect for their teacher and was also a lighthearted story/joke. This book reminds me of many other classic stories as well. I think kids will be able to use text to world connections when they finish reading it.

Ryan_R https://www.audible.com/pd/Miss-Nelson-is-Missing-Audiobook/B002V0AH7S Audiable has a great adaptation of this story! Check it out! 4y
DrSpalding I listen to Audible books consistently! This is an excellent idea. If you were to align universal design and English learner strategies, you would see that audiobooks definitely assist students with special needs and English learners. 4y

This is one of my childhood favorite's. I enjoyed reading this book from beginning to end and thought I should share it with you. This sweet picture book should be included in every elementary classroom library for every boy and girl to read.
“Miss Nelson is Missing“ by James Marshall is a light-hearted and adorably written picture book full of cartoonish and hilariously colorful illustrations allowing the reader to become enthralled in the story

Tinks This quirky classic is a good-humored reminder on how to show appreciation to those we value. It is a book about respect/disrespect, control, behavior, and ultimate change not only with the students in room 207, but change within the teacher herself. I would tag this book best under RF because I feel this could happen in real life. The UDL principles 9.1 regarding promoting expectations and beliefs that optimize motivation. #UCFLAE3414F19 5y
Tinks The UDL principles mentioned is also in conjunction with E.L. 3, 4 & 22 for encouraging self-talk (positive thinking), link lesson topic to students' prior knowledge and give enough time for second language learners to respond to questions. All can be met and accomplished through this picture book. I highly recommend this book to all. It is a must-read! #UCFLAE3414F19 5y
kgarzon This does seem like a really nice book for practicing positive thinking, as you mentioned, and addressing classroom behavior and management from what your description says. 5y
sbombasi I like how you mentioned this book was your childhood fav! I think it‘s really nice to share with your students how you grew up with this book and what you can do to promote positive thinking of a classroom! 5y

My day 1 of#boardbookbonanza is a toughie! How do you pick just one!? I went with this one because the dynamic duo of Harry Allard and James Marshall made SO many of my childhood faves. I adored the Miss Nelson books, The Stupids books, and the George and Martha books! This is the only one of theirs I actually own. I really should correct that. I love reading this one to my kids. We never get sick of it!

@ErinSueG @WhiskeyMistress

madamereadsalot1 @KristinaRay I was a Reading Rainbow junky too! 😆 They really need to reboot it. There aren't enough shows about books... or any that I'm aware of actually. 🤔 6y
madamereadsalot1 @meghan2714 it's still really enjoyable! There are some kids books I loved as a kid, that when I read to my kids now, there's no magic to it. But this one didn't lose any! 6y

#ABBAInAugust Day 2: When Miss Nelson was replaced by the terrible Miss Viola Swamp after the kids in Room 207 misbehaved yet again, the kids couldn‘t wait for Miss Nelson to return, so much so that it was almost like a #WhenIKissedTheTeacher moment when she finally came back. Miss Nelson is missing is a MF book by Harry Allard and James Marshall. I love this book and I read it to my nieces all the time! It is about a class who is getting into a lot of trouble. Miss Nelson decides to come to school the next day as Miss. Viola Swamp. The kids completely make a 360 change in their behavior and realize they took Miss.Nelson for granted. This is a great RA book or even a fun PR if they are able to read at this level.

emilybanne An activity I found is here at: https://www.teachwithme.com/blogs/getting-to-the-core/item/4457-miss-nelson-is-m... It is an activity where the kids make a drawing of Miss.Nelson and then another drawing of Miss.Viola Swamp. They then glue each picture on a popsicle stick. The teacher will read aloud different personality traits. The student will raise the person he or she thinks matches the trait read aloud. 6y
emilybanne This is a great activity for comprehension. A UDL strategy is 3.2 which refers to highlighting patterns, critical features , big ideas, and relationships. The students will be able to compare the relationship of the students and how the kids act. An ESOL Strategy would be 30 which is to encourage the use of diagrams and drawings aids to identify concepts and seeing relationships. This is what they will be doing when they have the popsicle sticks. 6y
DianaHerrera I love the idea of having the students use images from both teachers and raise which one of the two matches to the personality being told. It sounds like a game that i bet students will love. @emilybanne 6y
DrSpalding Minor errors. I too enjoyed the idea of having children draw Miss Nelson and Miss Swamp. 6y

This a comical fiction picture book that portrays how unruly students appreciate their teacher when a stern substitute arrives. It is a funny, cute, and surprising book to read to one‘s students. Perfect for RA, DR, RT in class. This link provides to an in class activity to do with the class: http://www.busyteacherscafe.com/literature_guides/missnelsonmissing.html
