What an amazing journey! Edward Rutherfurd's ability to weave historical events with fictional families and the trials and tribulations they endure thru the generations, never ceases to amaze me and keep me immersed. A great epic saga of Ireland.

I've just read an article stating that To kill a mocking bird, has been removed from a Mississippi schools reading curriculum.
The reasoning, that some of the language is uncomfortable. The 'language' being the N-word.
What are your thoughts on This?
#tokillamockingbird #cencorship

BooksAndChopsticks I think that since language has evolved (for the better), how are we to remember the past and how far we've come if we remove all traces of it? Just a humble opinion coming from a person of colour. 🤓 7y
No_One I think it‘s supposed to make people uncomfortable, to make a strong point. We can‘t just pretend the book (and subject matter) never existed! It makes me angry. 7y
msc1977 Yes. Especially when said word is used today so flippantly in music and movies and on the street. 7y
BooksAndChopsticks And said word is also in many of Steinbeck's works (like East of Eden and Of Mice and Men). Should those books also be banned? 7y

It make reading on my patio almost impossible.

Eleven Minutes | Paulo Coelho

This is one of my top favorite novels.
It touches on love, and lust, the confusion of the two, human nature and a woman's worth; to herself and to the men surrounding her. This is a sad story, of could've beens.

BooksAndChopsticks @msc1977 did you read the Alchemist? And if so, how does it compare to Eleven Minutes. Surprised that lots of Litsy folks found the Alchemist boring. 7y
msc1977 @BooksAndChopsticks I have read the Alchemists, I did enjoy it, but it was a long time ago, and a different head space. 7y
msc1977 @BooksAndChopsticks Eleven minutes is a whole new world apart from the Alchemists. You can't really compare the two, although they both do sneak in little life lessons. 7y

I love Christopher Moore. He is hilarious and dark. He does for San Francisco what Anne Rice does for New Orleans. He captures the city so well it makes you feel like you know it.

Its funny; you know how it's going to end,
You've known before you even open the book to start reading. And yet, you are still an emotional wreck at the end.
I loved this book. John Boyne has never disappointed.

This is one of my all time favorite novels ever. I've read it three times. It was a tough book to get into, but once I did I was enthralled. A book has never infuriated me, or made me as sad and happy as this. I literally cried like a baby with its tragic ending.
If you can crack into this book, you will not regret it.

I'm half way thru this book, and I'm truly enjoying it.
The way it weaves thru time from WWII, to the time of the Romanov empire and Rasputin, to present. I'm very much loving this book.

I first read this book in 2004, and I loved it.
I reread it again in 2006, and it was even better. One day I will read it again.
This book is so charming and full of good feels. It was supposed to be a trilogy, but I don't know what happened.

The Handmaid's Tale | Margaret Atwood
post image
Pickpick

I broke my usual rule, not to read more than one book at a Time. To savour a book and be engulfed by it. Which is what happened when I got the Handmaids Tale on my kindle--which I rarely use- I will always prefer a real book. Anyway. I got it and was just going to read a bit...well I have finished the whole book.
It was brilliant. Has always been on my to read list, as I love Margaret Atwood.
Now back to what I was reading.

My Edward Rutherford collection is growing.
I love his books. The history of these great cities are captured brilliantly thru the generational stories of fictional families.
A great blend of historical facts and fiction.
