Tender Is the Flesh | Agustina Bazterrica

Y‘all. O M G…. I- I- don‘t know what to say. All I can say is that I feel physically ill. I don‘t know if I will ever be able to look at let alone eat a piece of meat again. In all seriousness this is a schooling in the horrors of the meat trade with a deplorably skin-crawling twist. I‘m just not in the right headspace for this book at the moment but it doesn‘t escape me how important, compelling & relevant it is. This one will just have to wait.

The Tea Dragon Festival | Katie O'Neill

I was so happy to be back in this comfy world again. This book was like coming home. I was delighted to see familiar faces and happy to meet new ones. The Tea Dragon Festival includes a bipoc non-binary lead, a genderfluid supporting character and also has disability rep. This heart warming graphic novel is such a welcome and much needed addition to bookshelves. You can tell the art was drawn with love and the story reads like a warm hug feels.

Deifio I love that comic so much! I need to get the books! Also did you see that Kickstarter they did recently with the stuffed dragon toys? 🐉 I want one so bad, but they don't ship to Europe 😢 3y
pinkpistachio @Deifio 🥺 omg stop I'm gonna cry!! They're all so adorable! It looks like they're offering the “The Tea Dragon Society International Adoption Program“. Here's the registration form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfjjeZxzhp2CQJSKzs3fb5VUlCuPG-gdi5ma58T... hope this helps 🥰 3y

It‘s all finally starting to come together. The world is so incredibly unique and the lore is fully formed and brilliantly explained. It‘s the perfect mix of cozy wholesomeness/macabre and the artwork is breathtaking and hauntingly beautiful but bruh these cliffhangers!!!

Nute Nice review! 2y

I‘m really digging this strange little fairytale series; where wholesomeness meets darkness.

Seanan McGuire delivered more than enough to solidify my adoration for the whimsically dark world of the Wayward Children. As I was reading and tabbing I noticed that if I didn‘t stop I would run out of tabs. That‘s just how beautiful and impactful it was! I am so beyond thrilled to have more magical and poignant stories to venture back into with the rest of this bewitching series. I will simply leave you with this, READ IT!!!

diovival Welp! I think I have the first book in this series at home. Sounds like I need to dig it out and put it at the top of my tbr. 3y
pinkpistachio Yess, @diovival!!! I just adore this world and characters oh so much! It seems that a lot of people struggle with the first one especially if they‘re not accustomed to the weird and speculative but it‘s so worth it to stick it out. It‘s like if we got a deep look into how Alice must have felt after coming back from Wonderland. I really hope you enjoy it!! Let me know what you think :) 3y

Greenlights | Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey is an intellectual and a master in storytelling. He bares his soul in these pages and illuminates the inspiring, beautiful and heartbreaking aspects of life that make it worth living. It is an ode to our humanity. Audiobook must!

“We cannot fully appreciate the light without the shadows.”

“I‘m not perfect; no, I step in 💩 all the time and recognize it when I do. I‘ve just learned how to scrape it off my boots and carry on.”

Dream Thieves | Maggie Stiefvater

Look, when I say I struggled with “The Raven Boys”, I mean I STRUGGLED with The Raven Boys. The writing style did my head in! However, with this one it all finally clicked. I am officially Maggie Stiefvater TRASH. I can‘t wait to dive into Blue Lily, Lily Blue! As Kevin McCallister from Home Alone proposed, “Thirsty for more?” Yes, yes I am. *Raises Kindle like Thor with his drinking horn* “This book, I like it! Give me ANOTHER!!”

Lovely War | Julie Berry
post image
Pickpick

A sweeping story narrated by Aphrodite goddess of love. It was allegedly written by a mere mortal by the name of Julie Berry, but I‘m not convinced she‘s not a divine being herself to have written something this perfect! So affecting, meaningful, devastatingly gorgeous and truly magical. Within these pages is a tale for the ages. Where love & art come together to paint a one of a kind sunrise splashing the most wondrous colors across the horizon.

Tea Dragon Society | Katie O'Neill

I may or may not have audibly squeed! It whisked me away on a fluffy pastel cloud. The aesthetic art style & cottagecore vibe was like sipping a calming cup of tea as you watch the autumn leaves float to the ground at golden hour. Complex characters with varying skin tones, LGBTQ+/disability/mental health rep & of course ridiculously cute dragons! It‘s about the value of friendship, the deep bond of pet & owner, & the foundation of love.

The Yellow Wall Paper | Charlotte Perkins Gilman
post image
Pickpick

This should be viewed as a quintessential piece of feminist literature due to its early depictions of societal views/stigmas toward women's mental health. In this unforgettably powerful and important story our narrator, a paradoxical woman, gives a first hand look into her daily life living with mental illness. This is definitely one of those narratives that takes time to dissect, evaluate and discuss. I highly recommend you give it a read.

It felt like Joan took me on a state of the art VR time travel trip to the 1960‘s. Adorned in my flower crown, long puffed sleeves, thrown up peace signs, frayed bell-bottomed jeans, sandals and all. The pragmatic writing style invokes all of your senses. It elicits strong emotions, weaving a beautifully shattered/non-linear narrative that is honest, brilliant and only cemented the fact that she has become one of my favorite authors of all time.

Nute Spot on review! You described perfectly how this author touches me. I often label her writing ‘brilliant‘ as well!🙂 2y

The Secret History | Donna Tartt
post image
Pickpick

An expertly crafted, perfect "edge of your seat" type of suspense, a veracious page turner in every way. The narrative and writing style is tightly woven, well constructed, sophisticated, intellectually benevolent, cerebral and downright irresistible. This book is a character study and an investigation into the human condition. The Secret History definitely stands up against other novels in the genre and Tartt did something really special here.
