Sideways: A Novel | Rex Pickett
19 posts | 13 read | 1 reading | 9 to read
Sideways is the story of two friends-Miles and Jack-going away together for the last time to steep themselves in everything that makes it good to be young and single: pinot, putting, and prowling bars. In the week before Jack plans to marry, the pair heads out from Los Angeles to the Santa Ynez wine country. For Jack, the tasting tour is Seven Days to D-Day, his final stretch of freedom. For Miles--who has divorced his wife, is facing an uncertain career and has lost his passion for living-the trip is a weeklong opportunity to evaluate his past, his future and himself. A raucous and surprising novel filled with wonderful details about wine, Sideways is also a thought-provoking and funny book about men, women, and human relationships.

Can anyone tell me why @litsy wants all of my pics to be sideways? Every time I post, my image is properly oriented as I edit but when the post is published the image is sideways. (Note, I delete the post when this happens, so you won't see it reflected in any of my posts.) Am I the only person this happens to or is this a regular consequence of using the webpage rather than the app?

everlocalwest Of course this post is properly oriented. 😕 4w
Smrloomis Huh, this doesn‘t happen to me…weird! So you have to rotate it every time? 4w
Sharpeipup I‘ve been wondering this too! If I crop or edit the photo, then it will post correctly. I don‘t understand! 4w

everlocalwest @Smrloomis Sometimes they are properly oriented and sometimes they aren't. When they aren't - I just delete the post. So I have this backlog of reviews that I wanna post but don't want to post wonkily. I think my suspicion that this is a web based issue is it - but Litsy is no longer on Android. :( 4w
everlocalwest @Sharpeipup If I edit the photo - in any way! - it deletes from the post and I don't like posting without an image so I just delete the whole post when that happens. I'm so frustrated by it!! But I'm about to review dump and just let what happens happens. 4w
Smrloomis @everlocalwest darn! That‘s so frustrating 😡 4w

Miles and Jack, pretentious and philandering, respectively, take a trip through #WineCountry, and God help me, I love it. #LitsySpringBreak

This was one of those cases where I saw the movie first and then read the book. It was fun to compare them and I enjoyed them both.

Both the film and the novel portray two screwed up, irresponsible guys who take a road trip through California #WineCountry 🍷 and do lots of pretentious spouting about wine and of course, drink plenty of it as well. Do they gain any wisdom as a result of their travels?

#LitsySpringBreak

vivastory This was one of the few movies I watched more than once when it was in theaters 3y
Ruthiella @vivastory I‘ve only seen it the one time. Because I read the book and saw the film so close to one another, it was neat to see what they adapted and what they cut for the film. 3y
SamAnne I loved the movie. 3y

I went outside...it‘s still one color here: green! #Louisiana
But I found this picture I took of an old friend of mine in the liquor store...took it about 2 months ago. Anyway, lots of #Colors to be found here!

Thank you @LibrarianRyan for hosting this #RoadTripGiveaway - I hope you and your friend have a great adventure!

My song pick is Carefree Highway by Gordon Lightfoot https://g.co/kgs/c919ci paired with the tagged book. Both are about the highway/road trip as escape from commitments and obligations, and a chance to explore the possibilities "out there" - before it's too late ??????

#RoadTrip #TheBookIsBetter #Music #BooksandMusic

Wife I ❤️ that song. Now I need to find it on Pandora and 🎶🎵🎶 sing! (Thankfully I am alone because my singing is 🙄🤭🤐) 6y
TiredLibrarian @Wife I spent a lot of time commuting to work & school years ago, and had "Gold's Gold" on audiocassette. Did a lot of in-car singing along to that - no one else to hear, which was for the best! ??? 6y
Dragon Love that song ! 🤗 6y
LibrarianRyan I have not heard Gordon Lightfoot I years! 6y

Not really a fan of this one. The female characters were one dimensional and at one point I wouldn't have minded if both the main characters died.

#SeptPhotoChallenge Day 9 - Made into a movie

While the movie doesn't follow the book faithfully, it definitely gets the wine love & wine snobbery parts right. And anytime someone orders merlot, I can't help but think of Paul Giamatti's rant 😏🍷

JoeStalksBeck I learned a lot from this! 8y
Oblomov26 Loved the movie, need to read the book "any day you open that bottle of wine will be a good day" 8y

"Feeling better?" Jack asked gingerly, watching me out of the corner of his eye.
"Immeasurably." And I was. I didn't give a damn anymore. "I needed this", I added, holding up my glass.

I want a good friend by my side on a long, contemplative, road trip... with a glass of wine. Jack and Miles forever!

Finished Sideways yesterday, then watched the movie. I have to say I do not understand the changes they made. Stephanie instead of Tara? No Brad? Anyone else feel that way? #thebookwasbetter #movieadaptations
