Meet Kate Malone-straight A science and math geek, minister's daughter, ace long-distance runner, girlfriend, unwilling family caretaker, emotional avoidance champion. Kate manages her life by organizing it, as logically as the periodic table. She can handle it all-or so she thinks. Then, like a string of chemical reactions, everything happens: the Malones' neighbors get burned out of their home and move in. Because her father is a Good Man of God (and a Not Very Thoughtful Parent), Kate has to share her room with her nemesis, Teri Litch, and Teri's adorable, troublemaking little brother. And through it all, she's still waiting to hear from the only college she has applied to: MIT. Kate's life is less and less under control-and then, something happens that blows it all apart, and forces her to examine her life, self, and heart for the first time. Set in the same community as the remarkable Speak, Catalyst is a novel that will make you think, laugh, cry, and rejoice-sometimes at the same time.

in the book Catalyst "The tipping point" in its literal sense is a small series of events that lead to a larger one but it can also mean when someone is at the brink of anger

TheMrsShaw The LITERAL (denotative) meaning has to do with something that is balanced until more weight is added and then it tips. That's the meaning of the tipping point. 3y

I really appreciated this book for being able to hit me with feels I didn‘t see coming at all. Maybe since I read the authors other work, it shouldn‘t have been a huge shocker when tragedy struck but it still felt out of the blue.

BookishGirl06 I also liked the small reference to the tagged book making it come chronologically after that one 6y
dragondrool I absolutely love this book. 6y

ChrysFey For me, it was Speak. Then I devoured many of her other books. She‘s one of my favorite authors. 😄 7y
TieDyeDude She came to speak at my school when I was in middle school. I had an autographed copy of Speak, but I lost track of it a while ago. 7y

Picked this up from one of the coolest Free Little Libraries I've ever seen today. Hoping that I can finish and return it by the end of the conference so I don't have to carry it back with me.

Back at it this morning with my favorite blanket and mug! Winter theme! But that's ok because I keep it at winter conditions in my house during summer anyway. Asthma problems. Hoping to surpass my personal goal of 12 hours! #24in48

I had to mix it up with a YA book for right now then onto the next mystery. There was a whole bag of sugar snap peas but I ate most of them before seeing this hours check in. #24in48 #snacks

I also discovered that I won a prize for hour 18. So excited!! I never win anything!!
