The Clocks in This House All Tell Different Times
The Clocks in This House All Tell Different Times | Xan Brooks
8 posts | 4 read | 14 to read
An orphan is travelling through the deep, dark woods and discovers that the monsters she encounters are as much tragic as wicked and that the handsome young prince may be ugly inside. The world around her is callous, unjust and horribly scarred by the past. But she brings compassion and even a glimmer of hope.

Pickpick

As weird as expected, but also interesting and poignant.
Lucy, teenage orphan, goes to a field every Sunday to “spend time with” (euphemism) “the funny men” - veterans from recent WWI who are so disfigured they have to wear masks.
It‘s sinister at first, but as you learn these men‘s stories, they become more sympathetic.
It‘s a little convoluted at first, so give it some time.
⚠️ There is rape/prostitution, but only referenced indirectly.

wellreadredhead This sounds like something I‘d really enjoy! Thanks so much! 5y
JazzFeathers What an awesome title. And WWI? Staked! 5y

Chrissyreadit Did you get to read this? It sounds interesting, but i try not to read about kids and child prostitution because I work with kids in that situation (reading is my stress relief from work) 5y

TrishB @Chrissyreadit I still haven‘t read! @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled has just and reviewed so may be able to give you more info. I can totally understand wanting a different kind of fiction ♥️ 5y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled @Chrissyreadit Yeah, this book has a huge component of child prostitution, but it‘s never described (referred to as “mench”, as in “unmentionable”). It‘s an interesting book and quite touching, but if you avoid this topic Im not sure it‘s something I‘d recommend. 5y
