Xander's Panda Party
Xander's Panda Party | Linda Sue Park
11 posts | 11 read | 6 to read
Xander planned a panda party. Yes, a dandy whoop-de-do! But Xander was the only panda. Just one panda at the zoo. The zoos paucity of pandas doesnt impede Xanders party planning for long. He decides to invite all the bears. But Koala protests. Shes not a bearshe's a marsupial! Does that mean she cant come? Xander rethinks his decision to invite only bears, and Calling all bears evolves into Calling all creatures. The Newbery Medal author Linda Sue Park introduces animal taxonomy in a wonderfully engaging way, and the celebrated artist Matt Phelans charming ink and watercolor paintings are the icing on the cake. A read-aloud whoop-de-do!

I read this one before for #BBRC #LetterX , but just had to reread it, especially since I have a Xander (not a panda) at my house!

This introduces different types of animals as Xander the panda tries to figure out who to invite to his party. The surprise at the end makes the party even more special! #PictureBook

While not exactly a story poem, this book does use rhyme and meter to effectively teach both about inclusivity and about zoology and taxonomic classification. It‘s a little random, but it pulls off a really fun vibe. #BBRC Picture Book Letter X @LibrarianRyan

LibrarianRyan Letter X is always so hard. There is actually a series of theseXander books. 3y

In this book celebrating inclusivity, Xander the panda wants to throw a party - but who to invite? Using rhyming language, the narrative takes readers on Xander‘s quest to throw the best party ever. Lots of facts are thrown into the narrative, making this a great education piece for kids (and perfect to use in a story time setting). The illustrations are part of the fun as well.

Letter X for #BBRC #A2Z

Librarybelle My own #Xander , along with #Zeke and #SebastianKitty , enjoyed an impromptu story time this morning. Xander loved the story, as his name kept getting repeated! #catsoflitsy 4y
Moonprismpower Oh. My. Goodness. I want to scoop all the kitties into a big lump. and cuddle them. Also I now want to see if my library has this book. Have you read Julien is a mermaid? 4y

I GOT MY ‘X‘ book! I discovered that my local library has a partnership with neighboring counties to where you can get a “gateway card” and check our books from THEIR circulations. So I drove over to the bigger library and sure enough they had this picture book. Another #BBRC section complete! #a2z #picturebooks

jb72 Our libraries do interlibrary loans so usually we can request any book in the KY system. So glad you found a book (X). 5y

I have to go off theme for X, since this is the only X title I could find! Super cute story about including everyone, with a subtle lesson on taxonomy thrown in! This was definitely a fun read.

Ugh. These watercolour illustrations ♥️ This was the ONLY #picturebook that I found for #LetterX (and my last letter for #A2Z), but it did not disappoint! With a lesson on including everyone and not leaving anyone out, this story is sure to be a popular one amongst classrooms. #BBRC @LibrarianRyan #picturebook

alisiakae I'm using the same one for X! I wonder if another one exists? 5y
Sarahreadstoomuch I read this one for x too!! 5y

Hey #Bbrc - here‘s an X! More than that, it‘s a very cute rhyming story that sneakily demonstrates the concept of inclusion. Also included is an author‘s note with more information about the animals in the book. This would be a lot of fun to read aloud! #A2Z:X

monalyisha Oh, I like this story a bunch! It's such a tongue-twister-y pleasure! 5y

Read this to a kindergarten class two weeks ago & fell completely in love with this book that introduces animal taxonomy... as well diversity & inclusion. The story is wonderful, the rhymes are clever & fun ( they kept me giggling as I read aloud 😂), and the illustrations are lovely. Cannot wait to add this to my #childrenslit library!

This book was so fun. It rhymes, but without the standard cadences normally found in children‘s books. Plus, the vocabulary building in this book is just awesome. I always remember books that are not afraid to mix the big words with the usual sort found in picture books. This book gets an A+ from me, and now I too want to join the Panda Party. #beatthebacklist #hermione 2017

AWahle This sounds like just the thing for my friend's toddler who loves animals! I miss buying picture books now that my kids are grown. (edited) 8y
LibrarianRyan This was sooooooo adorable. It came out just as I was finishing my time as a children's librarian. Now that I have extra time I am reading through my back list. 8y
