I was intrigued by the idea of the novel, nobody falls asleep except a few and they have the same dream. We start with day 18, a zombie like scenario... ok not the start I wanted. Then day 1, ok pretty good. It went straight downhill after that. The novel heads in several directions I didn‘t have an interest in and never really explored what I wanted explored. There‘s no mystery, no tension. I did enjoy the gritty writing style but that‘s it.

Well...I really wanted to love this book. I kept waiting for the protagonist to DO something. He pretty much let‘s life and other characters drag him along. The literary descriptions were beautiful and the reflection of life and happenings poignant, though the SHOWING of emotions, feelings, and physical sensations fell a little flat. A few plot points were out of the blue and never explained. There was an anticlimactic ending.

“...there‘s us getting f***ed over and there‘s us also watching ourselves getting f***ed over.”

Best way to describe our current world situations.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

I read many of the reviews on Litsy prior to starting this book and almost left it on my shelf. I found this book in a spare bedroom of my recently deceased stepmothers home and stashed it away in my luggage. When I picked it up a few days ago, I could smell the faint odor of her cigarette smoke and was immediately transformed to my time spent with her. I‘m so glad I didn‘t leave it behind, it was a great book and well worth the read.

The author of this novel has obviously watched too many bad zombie movies.

Enjoyed this one - even though it was nothing particularly new. Big disaster, world falls apart, doesn‘t affect tiny minority etc. How quickly does civilisation disintegrate- seems to be quicker every book.
I may be done with such novels for a while.
But overall a good dystopian read if you‘re in the mood 😁

More dystopian bonkersness!!

So, I‘m in the mood for a bit of horror. I love to sleep and take naps. Let‘s see if that will be the same after I‘m done with this book. Just one quick snooze before I start... okay, I‘m up. So here goes. 😁

So I finished this yesterday and it was ok. A book where only a handful of people in the world can sleep while everyone else suffers through being awake. It was an apocalypse type novel that had an interesting premise but didn't deliver on the depth/details I was looking for.

My most anti-social cat will always join me when I‘m reading. It‘s our bonding time ☺️ #catsoflitsy

Here are the three books I'll be reading this month. Jane Eyre and Nod are buddy reads while I'm currently working through Talking As Fast As I Can. I'm listening to the audio as I follow along with the book

I really enjoyed this. The narrator professes a lot of unlikeable traits and opinions, while through his actions he consistently tries to do right. If you like your apocalyptic fiction to explain cause and ultimate effects you will hate this... Like The Road it doesn't try to explain why conclusively and it isn't a neat wrapped up ending either. #read2017

The narrator is an etymologist 😛😀🙋 (Also a misanthropic sarcastic know it all using snide humour to cover horror and fear - great voice!)

Real romantics are never the ones with the easy, winning ways about them; the real romantics are always the guarded ones, the paranoid and the worried, the ones with furrowed brows and coffee jitters. After all, anybody looking with open eyes at the world we‘d made would have to have been very, very worried.

My theory is that we needed love because we were so hard to like. Simple, huh? We‘re so unworthy of anything, so wavering, so temporary. All love was pain in that it was rooted in pity for our wretched souls. And yet, only love could hope to hold us together. And without love?

Why did good-hearted Canadian boys, brought up with the sweet succor of liberal marijuana laws and universal health care, suddenly look so badass and American the moment you slapped a uniform on their backs and handed them a pack of Juicy Fruit?

So I keep seeing this book everywhere and I finally have into what was clearly fate and bought it. It sounds riveting,
One fateful night changes Earth as well know it. As dawn breaks over the world not one except a select few has slept the night before. After 6 days of no sleep the body falls to psychosis, after just 4 weeks everyone will die. Panic courses across the globe and a new way of life emerges.

Wow! Utterly transfixed by the prose here. Terrifying concept with the rapid deterioration of society through lack of sleep. My only qualm is lack of explanation behind why, however, in life we cannot always find the answers #nod #booknerd #readitover2nights #books #reading #bookaddict

Not really sure what to think of this yet 🤔it's kind of hard to follow at the start. Almost like it's too descriptive of everything.

I purchased Nod from #Amazon yesterday after reading a bit about it and it sounds right up my street! Kinda #scary and interesting.

This was my reading material on the way TO a Folk festival. The first couple of chapters just seemed a little far fetched (I know - that's the whole point with apocalyptic fiction), but I got well and truly carried away with the story, so I can forgive that first bit. Everything just seemed a little rushed. It drew me in though! Also realised that this is not the book for someone who likes a happy ending (not that I'm in that camp!).

picked up a sample MyGeekBox this afternoon and it contained "Nod" by Adrian Barnes. Been wanting to buy this for a while as well! Score!! :)

It fades out a bit in the middle, but the opening third is pure dread and the ending has a haunting melancholy. Liked it a lot.
