The Odds of You and Me
The Odds of You and Me: A Novel | Cecilia Galante
11 posts | 2 read | 8 to read
In the vein of Meg Donohue and Sarah Jio, Cecilia Galantes second novel delivers the powerful story of one young woman whos faced with an impossible choiceone that could have her making the biggest mistake of her life. Thirteen days. Thats all Bernadette, Bird, Sincavage has left to go until shes done with her probation and can be free again. Free from making payments to the supermarket she wrote bad checks to. Free from living at home with her overzealous mother whos constantly nagging her about attending church again. Free to give her four-year-old son, Angus, the normal life he deserves. Her impending freedom and move to Moon Lake, where shes plunked down a deposit on a brand new apartment, is so close she can almost taste it. What trouble could she possibly get into in just thirteen days? But trouble does follow in the form of James Rittenhousesomeone she worked with a few years ago. At first, Bird is stunned to see James make the evening news when hes arrested for assaulting someone in a local bar. But thats nothing compared to the shock she gets when she discovers James hiding out in an abandoned church choir loft. Somehow he escaped police custody, broke his leg, and got his hand on a gun, which hes now pointing at her. Although Bird doesnt tell anyone she saw James, theres no way shes helping him. She cant screw up her probation or her second chance for a new future. And she has her sons welfare to think about. Still. If only she could stop thinking about the terrified look in James eyes and the fact that hes hurt. If only she could forget that once, long ago, James helped her out, and she owes him a debt like no other. Will Bird jeopardize her future for someone who helped her out in the past? A past that holds secrets shes not quite sure shes ready to face? Or will she turn a blind eye and learn to live with the consequences?

#Me #You #MeYou

For today‘s Me/You prompt, here‘s five books from my stacks with both words in the title. The top row I have read, the bottom two are in my #TBR.

Clwojick Great choices! I know I read that Cecelia Ahern book ages ago, but don‘t remember much about it. ❤️ 2y

#MarchMunchies #pancakes 🥞I've used this book in other prompts but it has some good peanut butter pancake scenes in it--made by the MC's mother for her, then later for her son. I made (gluten free) peanut butter banana pancakes for my book tour review: http://kahakaikitchen.blogspot.com/2017/02/the-book-tour-stops-here-review-of-od... 🥜🍌🥞💛

RealLifeReading Adorable pancakes! 7y

#DecDays #YoungDumbandBroke I don't like calling people dumb, but Bird in the tagged book and Mattie in The Art of Crash Landing are both young and broke and have made (and continued to make) some awfully dumb choices about their lives, so I thought of them for this prompt. I didn't like either of these MCs all that much at times, but they grew, as did my fondness for them.💙

Cinfhen I feel the same way about calling people dumb... even the really smart ones can make bad decisions!!! 7y
Cinfhen Love the graphics 7y
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen Yes and these two characters are not even the really smart ones! 🤣 I was feeling denim & daisies 🌼today. It's quite dark and rainy here! 7y

#Septembowie #TheJeanGenie No genies, but some books with jeans 👖on their covers from my stacks for today's prompt. 🤔Although come to think of it, a jean genie just might have had a hand in the pair on my favorite so-ugly-I-love-it cover of 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' from 1973. 😆👖📚👍

Soubhiville I remember The Cat Ate My Gymsuit! I feel like I read tons by that author in middle school. 7y
Cinfhen Loved the Lois Duncan (edited) 7y
BookBabe Awesome! I remember the Gymsuit book, I read that in elementary school! Good times! I used to read a lot by Lois Duncan too. 🙌🏻 7y

DebinHawaii @Soubhiville @BookBabe @Centique @Cinfhen @Marchpane Duncan and Danziger were two of my favorite authors growing up and I read their books over and over. 📚💜 7y

#riotgrams The odds of me doing a good #makeabookface photo? Not great! I live alone & lack patience & good selfie-taking genes-BUT I'm slightly obsessed w/completing any photo challenges I commit to. When I saw @EricQiao do a #bookthumb, I was inspired to 'borrow' his creativity & so I present the (not nearly as cool as a book thumb) ...#bookfeet! 📚👟Would have been better to have legs in the jeans & matching sneakers for the sides-but oh well!

I went into this blind, so I was stunned with how quickly this book got under my skin & didn't let go.
It's the story of Bird, a young mother with two weeks of probation left, when her past insists she helps someone who once showed her great kindness. Of course it's not that easy... He's on the lam. How she handles her obligations will keep you turning pages late into the night.
Thanks to the publisher & author for this ARC.

I really enjoyed this novel that gave me all of the feels-anger, laughter, a few tears. Galante writes great characters- not always easy to like but who grow on you until you end up loving them. Bird has put in time & effort to get a 2nd chance for her & her son after some very bad decisions & someone from her past has her risking everything to help him. W/(gluten-free) peanut butter banana pancakes inspired by the book. Link to review/recipe👇🏼

saresmoore Gluten-free! Woohoo! 8y
hollytucker Great picture. Those pancakes!! 8y

Day1 #FeistyFeb #TBR So my February TBR is a bit aggressive as this doesn't include any audio, e-books or the several I have already started on & am at least 1/2-way through with, cause it gets scary! 🙀 The top 4 are for review w/set book tour dates so those will get read for sure & I'm shooting to finish as many of the library books as I can but who knows what the month will hold & what other books will get added.😬📚📚 #somanybookssolittletime

jessdean Haha, yes! SO-O many books!😍📚📚📚 8y
DGRachel I'm hoping to get to Station Eleven soon 8y

DebinHawaii @jessdean You know it!!! 😆 @JackieSmith @DGRachel I fear I will not finish it before the return date next but plan on renewing it as I really want to read it. 👍📚 @Lizpixie Will do. I will probably start it sometime next week as my review date is 2/14. 👍📚 8y
SaraFair This looks like a great stack. Glad you are doing the work for me, and I will only add what you like! Just got Station 11 used so we'll both be on that one! 8y
