Because of Thursday
Because of Thursday: With Audio Recording | Patricia Polacco
9 posts | 2 read
From critically acclaimed author Patricia Polacco comes a heartwarming story about a girl named Annie, her lucky Thursdays, and a special cat who comes into her life just in time to make everything right. Thursdays have always been lucky for Annie Fetlock. She was born on a Thursday. She won her first cooking contest at the age of eight on a Thursday. She met the love of her life, Mario, on a Thursday. They were married on a bright Thursday afternoon and their two children were both born on a Thursday. Annie is known far and wide for her Poke Pasta Salad and has the most popular restaurant for miles around. When Mario suddenly passes away, Annies joy and love of cooking disappears. Before too long, a little kitty appears and Annie takes the kitty in, and, of course, calls it Thursday. Annie is back making Poke Salad in no time. Thursday the cat is known for amazing twirls and tricks and one day his twirls land him in Annies draining rigatoni, causing the pot of hot oil, garlic, and peppers to spill into the pasta! Then the entire container of Parmesan cheese overturned into the mix. The customers were horrified until they noticed that what looked like a big mess had the most amazing aroma and turned out to be the most delicious pasta dish ever created! Ugly Pastathe dish that would make Annie famous for miles aroundwas born. And of course it was a Thursday!

“Because of Thursday” written by Patricia Polacco is a wonderful RF and RA picture book for a teacher to have in their classroom. Annie, the main character, loves Thursday‘s and has a restaurant with her husband. Some unfortunate-events have happened and this book takes you along for the ride with a great ending. #UCFLAE3414SP20

carolinem UDL principle 3.1 which activate or supply background knowledge will be appropriate for this book due a famous chef being in the book so students will have to activists their background knowledge. ESOL strategy 11 which placing language into meaningful context which is appropriate for this book. 5y
carolinem https://youtu.be/DIAk47qje7s This is a great Read aloud that you can present to your students! 5y
DrSpalding Including a digital read aloud is wise however be sure that you show students your read aloud skills often in your own classroom. 5y

📖 I really enjoyed A Woman is No Man by Etat Rum
📖 It‘s been good reading experiences so far this year. No complaints!
📖 The Tubman Command / Hope Farm / Disappearing Earth...so many others...
📖 One goal was to participate in a Readathon which I can happily report was accomplished with last month‘s 24B4Monday weekend of reading.
🌼 There‘s probably no one to tag since most folks did this yesterday ON Thursday.😅

Thanks @Areader2 for the tag!

Megabooks I‘m getting A Woman Is No Man from BOTM. I‘m excited! 5y
Nute @Megabooks Missing BOTM! Can‘t wait to hear your thoughts on A Woman Is No Man. Hope that you enjoy.🙂 5y

Because of Thursday(RF) by Patricia Polacco is a great book that can be used as a (RA) Read Aloud. This book is about a woman who opens a successful restaurant and has a good life. Sadly, her husband passes away and she loses her love for cooking. One day she finds a little cat who helps her get her love for cooking and life back. This is a great book to read aloud to students because some of the vocabulary can be advanced, but it can help

Edenmonet grow your students vocabulary as well. A good lesson plan that can go along this book is a story map where they have to write down parts of story structure. https://www.teachingbooks.net/content/StoryMap_level2_sample.pdf The UDL princples would be 2.1 because vocabulary will have to be clarified so students can understand whats happeing in the story. The EL strategy would be 14 because the more difficult vocabulary words can be made simple while (edited) 6y

DrSpalding A wonderful book by a wonderful author. Vocabulary is vital! You did a nice job aligning your vocabulary universal design principle as well. Well done. 6y
