Hulk Vol. 1: Deconstructed
Hulk Vol. 1: Deconstructed | Mariko Tamaki
14 posts | 15 read | 7 to read
Jennifer Walters has survived the second Civil War...barely. But, having risen from the rubble, she re-enters the world a very different kind of hero. Fueled by a quiet rage, she is determined to move forward, to go on with her life - but the pain of the past and all that she's lost is always there. An undercurrent, a pulse waiting to quicken -and trigger Jen's transformation into the one thing she doesn't have control over... COLLECTING: HULK 1-6

Bruce Banner is killed and Jen Walters barely survives the events of the second civil war. Plagued by survivors‘ guilt and post traumatic stress disorder, she tries to rebuild her life and return to practicing law. This is a great theme and it is respectfully realized, however, I miss the adventures and smashing usually associated with the ‘Hulk‘ characters.

I don‘t even really read these comics, but I‘m so tempted to pick these up at my local comic store because they are gorgeous! 😍😍😍

My all time favorite comic. As someone who experienced trauma, and then recovered in the city, everything about this book felt like a punch in the chest. I love Jennifer Walters, and this book is more than I could‘ve asked for:

When I ordered this from the library I hadn‘t realized how the plot was reliant/impacted by the second Civil War storyline. It was a good story, but I don‘t know that I‘ll look for volume 2. 3/5 #graphicnovel #comics #septemberreads

I'm a huge fan of She-Hulk, and while I enjoyed this to some extent, I thought it was lacking in certain areas. The artwork is a miss, minus the variant art such as this 🔼 - and it's basically an inner monologue chronicling her depression for 5 issues, with She-Hulk only emerging at the end. ⭐️⭐️⭐️#shehulk #graphicnovels #marvel

SOOOO. Newest She-Hulk series. Post Civil War 2. (you all know my opinions on CW2 🙄) We see Jen out of her coma, trying to get back to normal life by working at a new law firm. Just plain ole Jen. Not She-Hulk. The major theme of this trade is Jen seriously struggling with PTSD post the events of CW2, so TW for PTSD/panic disorders. God, she is so *human* in this trade. Probably the most human I've ever seen Jen in her comics. Love it. A+.

queerbookreader I will note, I have diagnosed PTSD and didn't have an issue with reading this. It didn't feel triggering to me--more just super relatable. Like "oh boy I spy a panic attack I get how she's feeling right now" 7y
WarpedSweetness I feel the same way about Civil War 2. -_- I'm being treated for PTSD, though no official diagnosis as of yet. 7y

I haven't read any other She-Hulk series but when I saw this was written by Mariko Tamaki, I immediately added it to my TBR. #muscles #aprilbookshowers
