The Death Sculptor
The Death Sculptor | Chris Carter
18 posts | 19 read | 8 to read
The chilling thriller from the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Night Stalker and The Executioner. 'Good job you didn't turn on the lights . . .' A student nurse has the shock of her life when she discovers her patient, prosecutor Derek Nicholson, brutally murdered in his bed. The act seems senseless - Nicholson was terminally ill with only weeks to live. But what most shocks Detective Robert Hunter of the Los Angeles Robbery Homicide Division is the calling card the killer left behind. For Hunter, there is no doubt that the killer is trying to communicate with the police, but the method is unlike anything he's ever seen before. And what could the hidden message be? Just as Hunter and his partner Garcia reckon they've found a lead, a new body is found - and a new calling card. But with no apparent link between the first and second victims, all the progress they've made so far goes out of the window. Pushed into an uncomfortable alliance with the confident Alice Beaumont, Hunter must race to put together the pieces of the investigation . . . before the Death Sculptor puts the final touches to his masterpiece. Praise for Chris Carter: 'A gripping debut... Not for the squeamish.' Heat 'A page-turner.' Express

Fabulous read, but it is gory, so if you have a weak stomach, you need to skip it.

Everyone looks at art different. The newest serial killer in LA is sculpting objects. Hunter and Garcia are on the case. The DA thinks they need help on this case, so he assigns Alice Beaumont to help them. Hunter knows that the killer is trying to tell them something from the sculptures, but he can't figure it all out. ⬇️

As I said, if you have a squeamish stomach, skip this book. It is not for the faint of heart. Carter continues to develop these characters. This is the fourth book in the series and the keep getting better. I enjoy them because I try (notice I said try) to figure out the killer before Hunter and Garcia do. I have to say that this one took me by surprise. I never noticed any evidence as to who it was. Love, love books like this.

'Oh my God, I'm late,' Melinda Wallis said, springing out of bed as her tired eyes glanced at the digital clock on her beside table.'

Andrew65 @Monica5 I always feel sorry for any character introduced in the prologue or first chapter of these style books! 9mo
Monica5 @Andrew65 yes, because you know something somehow is going to happen to them or someone they know 9mo

I love Chris Carter‘s books! It‘s been a few years since I‘ve read them so I‘ve forgotten how the creep/gross factor goes up a notch in the next book. There is always a “what..the..actual..f***?!” moment. It‘s been four years since I last read this book so I was once again surprised by the reveal of the murderer. As I‘ve said of the prior books, they are not for the faint of heart. You‘ve been warned. #SeriesLove2023 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView

A truly gruesome foray into the mind of a serial killer with an agenda. These books are a fascinating series and I recommend them to lovers of macabre tales.

Chris Carter‘s books are not for the faint-hearted; his serial killers usually inflict a great deal of #Pain on their victims.

Book 4 of the Detective Robert Hunter series. Not as good as the first ones, but still a page turner that I did not want to set down. Carter was stingy in giving the reader clues, so I had no hope of figuring out the killer while I read. However I enjoyed just going along for the ride. It‘s gritty and gory, so definitely not for the feint of heart!

Gonna go back to some Chris carter now. Only 1 more book of his after this and I can buy the new one. He‘s an author I discovered at the end of last year and I‘ve raced through his books because they‘re just so good. Here goes... I‘m sure it won‘t disappoint. 📚📚📚

As part of a Group Read, I have started The Death Sculptor, the fourth book in the excellent Robert Hunter Series. Great books, but a tad on the gritty side in places.
