Snagged my #bookspinbingo with the tagged. The story is delightful, featuring a Seelie vs. Unseelie war between fantastical creatures that can only be resolved by a couple of doughty human kids. The art is delightful. No surprises but it‘s a good time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So overwhelmingly excellent. Sweet, with an incredible message and so beautifully and carefully researched. I cried within the first 13 pages, it‘s such a perfect story of family and belonging and misplaced loyalties and FORGIVENESS and oh, please read it.

This book exists in a well developed world with great character design. I kept getting getting out of the flow of the story because I loved people‘s outfits so much. Like Id‘naress, I want her skirt. If you like books of magic, I think you may like this, even if it‘s for a younger crowd.

I‘m getting so far behind! 😭 After all the reading momentum of 2017, this year has been a bit disappointing. I‘m not completely in a slump, I‘m just not reading at my regular pace and I‘m not as motivated to read and I‘m starting a lot of things but not finishing them and I have very little energy for Litsy or Goodreads or reviews. Ugh. Here‘s hoping for a change in the final three months of the year!

britt_brooke 72 books at this point is still a ton of books! 6y
MarriedtoMrT @britt_brooke You‘re right. It is! And other years I would be very happy but I was hoping to push myself this year. Still, I‘m only racing against myself so maybe I‘ll just lower the goal and not stress! 6y
britt_brooke @MarriedtoMrT 💚 No stress! 😙 6y

The City on the Other Side by Mairghread Scott, illustrated by Robin Robinson is a wonderful tale about a girl who lives a very sheltered and boring life. All she wants is to get a bit dirty and go on an adventure when suddenly, she finds herself on the other side of the vale! She is then thrust into a quest where the fate of the world depends on her.

Looove this one. The historical fiction elements worked really well. The fantasy elements worked really well. The main human characters are Latinx and Filipino, which works wonderfully for something set in early 20th century San Francisco. The characters were wonderful. I especially loved Button (the mushroom guy on the cover) because obviously. The ending was satisfying. I only wish it had been longer. Definitely recommended!

Another fun story from the folks at :01. The Seelie and Unseelie are at war and it‘s up to three brave heroes to save not only the fairy world but the human city of San Francisco beyond the veil. I especially liked Button‘s extra part at the back explaining all the history and mythology this clever book pulled from. Thanks for the advance read!

3⭐️ The city on the other side is the land of the Seelie, and the Unseelie. Types of Fae. A magic messenger accidently crosses over to the human world, leaving a necklace that must get to the Seelie Queen to defeat the Unseelie and bring peace to their world. The story is nice, but it has holes. It moves too quickly. With a graphic novel the story is as much about the art as the words, and in this copy, they are both lacking.
