hmmmmm idk how to really feel about this. it was (for the most part) a fun summer read but there were a lot of things i didn‘t like about it. like the main character sucks and every single problem in the book is created by her. and also the whole holding a grudge for 5 years thing is stupid. and also there‘s something i don‘t like about authors capitalizing off of cancer. but ok i guess

Very very similar plot line to Nicholas Sparks's "The Last Song", but is a super easy summer YA read! I read it because my teenager LOVES it and I asked for her recommendation. She picks decent books!

“As I looked out at the water, I realized there was nowhere to go, nowhere left to run. And I just had to stay here, facing this terrible truth. I felt, as more tears fell, just how tired I was, a tiredness that had nothing to do with the hour. I was tired of running away, tired of not telling people, tired of not talking about it, tired of pretending things were ok when they had never, ever been less than ok.“ #MorganMatson #SecondChanceSummer

This was really hard to get through. It was just way too long and soooo slow. Not very much happens, the stuff that does happen mostly isn‘t high stakes enough, and the main character has the personality of a piece of cardboard, making it hard to care about her. I did like the family dynamics, especially her dad, and was sad at the ending, which keeps me from giving this a “pan.” But there are just much better YA contemps out there. 3/10 ⭐️

This contemp is slooooow. And quite long—I wish it had been better edited. Still reading, but considering bailing...

Need something upbeat after the sadness of The Age of Miracles. Morgan Matson‘s pretty good for that!

This is my first and only Morgan Matson read yet. Flipped through its pages in a day 3 years ago and it was very unforgettable and moving. I cried 😿

Ha sido un libro que me ha hecho daño, porque estoy sensiblera. Pero todo en él me ha parecido realista, y esta muy bien escrito 💕

It's easy for a book to tug at my heartstrings and make me feel emotional and sad, but it's unusual for one to make me cry. This book did exactly that. There were tears. So many tears! A personal experience of mine still feels fresh and Second Chance Summer took emotions and feelings I haven't been able to explain and put them into words beautifully. Definitely a book I won't forget.

In short, I loved this book.

It's one of those slice-of-life books, where you're essentially following the main character through her daily life.

It's about family, friendship, first love, and about making the best of the time you have now, rather than wait until it's too late.

Beautiful and heartbreaking book about family, friendship and love.
I was barely holding it together at the end. Scenes were written with such emotion that I could easily put myself in Taylor's shoes even if it made me want to cry.
Nicely written and fast paced book. Easy read.

This is one of those books that starts off "meh" and ends up blowing you away. Set in Pocono, PA (I've been there!) during summer, Taylor is all of us as a teenager. This should be required literature for all high school girls. This book gave me all the feels!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A summer read about finding love, losing love and all the in between.
My favourite of the Morgan Matson books. It was an amazing read that left me an emotional wreck by the end (Photo of me for reference of what I looked like finishing the book)

2.5 🌟 Maybe I'm burnt out on contemporary YA, but I feel like Matson's narrators come off as spoiled and self centered a lot of the time, which makes it hard to empathize with them. The love story is blech, but the parts with her father are very good and emotionally affecting.
This one is just ok.

Gelsey? Really? I'm not feeling overly quirky names...

Reviewsbylola That would kill me. 8y
KatyAliceReads @Reviewsbylola I almost bailed on the book when I read that name. 8y
thebookmagpie I love Morgan Matson but she is truly the worst at picking names for her characters. One of her love interests is named Frank. Frank! 8y

I prefer my contemporary YA to have as little substance as possible. However, this book unexpectedly has some, and I may have even....cried. It's a pretty good fun/sad book, but be prepared.

I really loved this book. I have loved everything I've read by Morgan Matson and this book was no exception. As an avoider myself, I could totally relate to Taylor and her instinct to run from conflict. I definitely cried at the end but the story was worth the tears.

The book is good, but for some reason it was lacking. The plotline fell short and it lacked immense movement. Full review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1035758336?book_show_action=false
