When a little boy meets a stranded alien child, the two instantly strike up a fabulous friendship. But at bedtime, the alien suddenly grows very sad. Can the boy figure out what his new buddy needs most of all? This funny, heartwarming story proves that friends and family are the most important things in the universe . . . no matter who you are.

This SF story is in second person POV similar to the “If You Give A Mouse a Cookie” franchise. It walks you through what might happen if an alien were to appear outside your window. This would be great for DR as there are many interesting things happening quickly throughout. ESOL strategy 42, regarding timelines, would work here as the story works through many events in one day. #UCFLAE3414F19

JennaMichelleCohn UDL 2.4, “Promote understanding across languages,” would work here, in a funny way. The alien can‘t verbally communicate with the little boy, but the little boy knows all of his thoughts and feelings through his facial expressions and body language. It‘d be interesting to use this as an opportunity to use context clues and ask HOW we know the alien is feeling a certain way just by looking at the picture. 5y
JennaMichelleCohn https://www.teachingbooks.net/tb.cgi?tid=47223 this page holds some resources that can be used for this book. I personally like the customizable story map that can be used to help students determine the beginning, middle, and end of the story. 5y
ChrisC This book looks very interesting, can‘t wait to read it! 5y

sbombasi Aw this book sounds interesting to read to a class about aliens especially the resources you provided! 5y
DrSpalding I am adding this to my stack. Sometimes alien stories are more fantasy than science fiction but I will give you the benefit of the doubt. I like the idea of having other options that are circle stories to compare to Numeroff‘s series. 5y

This is almost a “round about” book, where one action leads to another, and another, eventually coming back to the beginning. It sort of works, but not fully. It is lacking. The story isn‘t fun, not fully wistful, just something is missing. However, the illustrations are lovely and make me expect more from this story than was served.

This Book is a cute take on SF. When an alien comes from space, do you keep it? How do you break the news to your parents? Will your alien want to stay forever? This could be a great inspiration for a class book or extension for a writing prompt. In addition to writing, here's an activity that could connect science as well: http://www.unawe.org/resources/education/design_your_alien_activity/ #ucflae3414su17
