The thrilling follow up to The Last Place You Look, starring troubled and determined private investigator, Roxane Weary Marin Strasser has a secret. Her fianc thinks her secret is that shes having an affair, and he hires P.I. Roxane Weary to prove it.Then, just days into the case, Marin is shot to death on a side street in an apparent mugging. But soon enough the police begin to focus on Roxane's client for Marins death, so she starts to dig deeper into Marins lifediscovering that the elegant woman shes been following has a past and a half, including two previous marriages, an adult son fresh out of prison, and a criminal record of her own. The trail leads to a crew of con artists, an ugly real estate scam that defrauds unsuspecting elderly homeowners out of their property, and the suspicious accident of a wealthy older woman who lives just down the street from where Marin was killed. With Roxanes client facing a murder indictment, the scammers threaten Roxane's mother by ensnaring her house in their web of fraud unless Roxane drops the case, and it becomes clear that the stakes are as high as the secrets run deep.

Another great mystery in this series. Roxane is slightly less of a mess which was nice. The mystery is very believable with lots of suspects. Definitely a fun read. We get less of her brothers, which was the one thing I missed. Still, a great read that I stayed up late to finish.

Book 2 in the Roxane Weary mystery series set in Columbus, OH. I really like this series! So glad I have books 3 & 4 to look forward to, and hopefully there will be more.

I found lots of good Kindle daily deals and monthly deals today. There are two more monthly deals that I want but I'll wait a week or two on those.

Just as good as The Last Place You Looked. I really like Roxane and I've liked both mysteries. #thriller #PI

I loved the first one for a) being an awesome mystery with a great, complicated lead and b) allowing me to play Spot the Places You Know. This one hits me in the hometown feels before it even starts.

What a book!! I loved everything about it! PI Roxane Weary is definitely one of my favourite fictional characters now. I also loved the complex characterization of her on-again off-again girlfriend Catherine, her (sort of?) ex Tom, a queer teen girl befriended in book 1, and all the secondary characters. This detective plot was complicated, layered, and a little hard for me to keep track of at times--keeping me on my toes! Murder and fraud!

"I needed a change of scenery. I walked over to the Olde Towne Tavern, where I sat at a table on the patio with a drink, a basket of nachos, and the county property databases, like the party animal I was."

Ha! Have I mentioned I love Roxane? Also, feeling pretty sleepy at this juncture in the #readathon.

charl08 I'd not heard of this author, but she's in my library's e collection, so I've just downloaded the first one. Cheers! 6y

"It's just that everyone should have somebody who makes things easier and not harder."
Roxane is tough and screwed up, but she also has a heart of gold. She says this to a queer teenager she befriended in book one who she is now a "surrogate cool aunt" to. #readathon

Tea in my dad's sheep mug and the last two bites of a Halloween ghost cookie. Mmm delicious. Also this mystery is getting curiouser and curiouser. #Readathon

Okay I took a very long break this afternoon and evening from the #readathon to hang out with my family, but here is a belated picture of me reading and eating BC ferries food. And now I'm gonna get back to reading!

Geeklet That looks delicious! 6y

My second #readathon book and the second book in the Roxane Weary PI series. I am loving it already! I love Roxane. She runs into her ex-girlfriend at a museum while tailing someone and "I did the mature thing and hid behind a sculpture made of chicken wire and fake fruit." Haha. #BisexualBooks #QueerBooks

Roxane Weary is such a dynamic character, and I loved spending time in her world. The mystery felt a little complicated with lots of related characters. At times, I had a hard time keeping them straight. And I was confused by their ages often. Still, the resolution was satisfying, and I can't wait for more Roxane.

KateFulfordAuthor If you need another recommendation, may I point you to my debut? Sassy & dynamic female narrative, laugh out dialogue and a pacy plot. Check the link in the bio for 2 free chapters, reviews and more. 6y

A solid second book in the series. I really like Roxane Weary and all her imperfections. It makes her that much more relatable in how she struggles to figure out where she fits in with her family, job and relationships. I do wish I had a better memory of book 1 since there were so many references to her relationships from it. Regardless, these books are now part of my "must read" when then come out.

Today‘s #bookmail was a good one! Romance by @EloisaJames , horror/sci-fi that I read (and loved!) but was waiting for the paperback, and a second in a mystery series I started last week. 🙌

My brain no compute spring forward so I cracked open a book I've been looking forward to. I love when you liked a character so much that it feels like revisiting a friend when you get another in the series. (The goat is off camera eating a palm frond bc she's a freaking goat.)
