Complete Poems, 1904-1962
Complete Poems, 1904-1962 | E E Cummings
At the time of his death in 1962 e.e. cummings was, next to Robert Frost, the most widely read poet in America. For this edition of cummings's work, George Firmage has gone back to the poet's original manuscripts to ensure the accuracy of the transcriptions. In particular, the spatial arrangement of the typography now conforms as precisely as possible to cummings's very specific intentions. To the contents of the volumes published during cummings's lifetime - now arranged in the order he originally specified - have been added all of the hitherto uncollected poems as well as the unpublished poems first issued in 1983.

#day9 #present #poetrymatters

If fear was plucky, and globes were square,
And dirt was cleanly and tears were glee
    Things would seem fair,-
    Yet they'd all despair,
    For if here was there
We wouldn't be we.

The first few lines of my favorite poem “about” spring, this image of them borrowed from The Poetry Foundation‘s archive. Cummings is much darker than he‘s sometimes given credit for. 📚☔️📚☔️📚☔️

I couldn‘t find this specific book on here!!! e.e. cummings is one of my favorite poets, along with TS Eliot. There is something about his style that just completely speaks to me!!
He has said he is influenced by Amy Lowell and Gertrude Stein. #agameoffavorites #poetry #eecummings @ErinSueG

Just finished this #chunkster for this month's poet with 30m to spare!😁 #poetrychallenge2018 @Natasha.C.Barnes
I have learned that I absolutely adore certain poems by cummings, especially earlier ones, but overall he's not a fave. I believe my next poet is Marianne Moore, whom cummings wrote a poem to /about.

GondorGirl My grandparents used this poem when they renewed their vows on their 60th anniversary. I can't read this poem without thinking about them. They meet in junior high school and my grandpa knew right then that he works marry her. It took grandma a couple more years to agree. 7y

TheAnitaAlvarez Love cummings 💙💙💙💙 7y
Andrea4 @TheAnitaAlvarez I really love some of his poems, I find them all interesting in style, but many I dislike 😁 7y
TheAnitaAlvarez @Andrea4 oh, my students (4th year English Lit students) loved him a lot. And the professor in charge too! He was one of the most popular poets in our syllabus 7y
Andrea4 @TheAnitaAlvarez that's great! Honestly, I think most of the time poetry is so time-specific that when I'm reading all these giant editions I'm very unsuprised that I swing from loving to hating. It would probably be different if I were only reading a few poems or one book. But I love him for the fact that I dislike some of his poetry...if that makes sense. 7y
TheAnitaAlvarez @Andrea4 it makes sense, why wouldn‘t it? A lot of his most experimental stuff provokes a feeling of rejection (?) but then it‘s also so interesting and challenging that you sort of like him for that (edited) 7y
