Ursula Flight is a young girl in Restoration England, married off to a bit of a gruesome older husband, who wants to write and see the theatre and act and do so much more with her life. Her narrative voice is quirky and absolutely delightful.

I ordered this because it sounded intriguing then was blown away by the gorgeousness!!🤓

Another great choice from the Rare Birds Book Club. “The Illumination of Ursula Flight” is a fun, quirky tale of a young girl growing up in the 17th century. Very different to what I would normally choose but I enjoyed it and it‘s 4 stars from me.

After what felt like the longest January ever, February is flying by!

I really loved the last Rare Birds Book Club book, “Dear Mrs Bird” and was looking forward to seeing what February had in store. See my latest blog post to learn more about this month's book! 📚

I heard Simon Savidge talk about this on booktube and got distracted from my TBR. I think he described it as Flavia de Luce growing up in 17th century England. Just my thing! This debut author has a light touch and a great sense of humour. Although it touches on some sad moments, it never gets dark - a feel-good book if you like historical novels and mischievous girls not giving in to societal rules. 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is such an entertaining and fun romp set during the reign of King Charles II. I loved Ursula and her quirky voice. A very original and quite unusual tale which is beautifully and thoughtfully written with both sad and amusing moments. A captivating, easy to read and enchanting drama which I applaud with vigour. I do so hope there will be an encore from this new author. Unique!
