Currently reading. I know there is so much controversy about the joint Booker Prize win. I really enjoyed The Testaments and am now jumping into this gem. No matter your stance on the win, both women are incredible writers.

TheBookStacker I just got this book haven‘t started yet, excited to read it! 1w
rwmg I haven't read it, but I thoroughly enjoyed her “The Emperor's Babe“. It was a hoot. 1w

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you are looking for a creepy, sinister book to read this Halloween, look no further. Faeries, dark caves, floating lights, radical medical experiments, haunted houses, servants with shocking secrets, changelings and scary dolls. Yes yes yes!! This has it all. ⁣

Bone China is a character driven gothic tale of superstition, obsession and insanity. I was gripped and beguiled.⁣

Well this was creepy AF. ⁣

After the opening pages I almost gave up because the murders were so gruesome and disturbing (trigger warnings for almost everything!). But I bravely kept going and was rewarded with a dark scandi noir, decently developed characters and a plot that kept me hooked ( and freaked out all the damn time). ⁣

Dolls are ALWAYS scary. ALWAYS.⁣

About half way through this book I was so disappointed. It was fun and frivolous, but lacked the substance of the divine “Signature of All Things”. It‘s only in the latter half of the novel that anything truly meaningful happens. But when it does, it is touching and heartfelt. It takes it‘s sweet time getting there, but in the end City of Girls delivers the substance with the style.
