Finally arrived from the UK, Seventeenth Summer is considered by some to be the first example of YA fiction, although I think it‘s really The Outsiders. I thought I really needed a copy for my classroom library, so I am glad it finally got here.
This was a hard one for me...
Pros: It doesn‘t seem like it was written in the 40‘s, & the descriptions could be really vivid. It‘s a significant book, as it‘s considered one of the earliest “teen” books.
Cons: I had a hard time relating to the narrator, who hardly spoke throughout the book. I expected angst, but not sections where the boy love interest is talking to her but we rarely see her replies. Just odd.

I read this for my YA Lit class. Considered a classic of sorts for YA Lit, it was originally published in the 1940s. It‘s about a young love that blossoms in the summer. Very chaste, very sweet, very innocent. The edition I read had a slight update, but for the most part, 1940s ideals shine through the book. #OurLastSummer #ABBAinAugust

Spent today in an airport waiting out an ice storm, but at least I'm making headway on my homework stack! First up: this young adult sensation from 1942.
Successful visit to the great #Bookmans in Tucson. I'm very sentimental about books I read in my teens and I love coming across them. ❤️
