Mary Lambert is a singer and poet, known for her activism for LBGQT rights, fat acceptance, and mental illness issues. Her poetry is raw, brave, difficult to read at times, as she deals with her own struggles around weight, about being sexually assaulted, her struggles with her family and mental illness, especially depression. No doubt many readers will connect to what she is saying.

Where to begin. This is such a dark, raw and honest collection. It spoke to me so strongly because I have lived through some of what Mary writes about. She articulates so well what many women can not. Mary is a gem, both in music and poetry.

Listened to this as part of Book Riot‘s 2020 challenge and it was very lovely! I have never considered listening to a poetry audiobook before and this was good!

I've been MIA from Litsy for a bit, but I'm back with my August #bookhaul . I tend to cope with stress by buying books, and it's been a stressful month 📚 I'm super excited to read these; the tagged book is probably my highest priority to start.

MuddyPuddle Unfortunately, one of my biggest stresses is not having enough money to buy books, LOL! 5y
TrishB The tagged book has been in my basket for ages waiting for an offer! 5y

Language Barrier
I read that in Japanese there is a word for the light that passes through the trees
I wish I had a word for the way you look at me
I could say your eyes are the sound of wooden chimes in winter or the dust of the thicket awakening from sunbeams when the snow clears
I want to say something, some accurate alchemy, some kind of splendor to mirror in syntax the kind of ceremony in your eye patterns when you study my face in bed, ...

VioletBramble Like I am being understood from the ground up. What kind of magic are you 5y

Started the New Year off right; this collection is everything I hoped. Let's just say I was nodding in recognition by page 3 and crying by page 24. Beautiful, powerful. Thank you, Mary. #currentlyreading
