Definitely one of the coolest books I‘ve ever read! The “main book” itself was kind of dull but the “side story” of the characters writing to each other in the margins and scrutinizing about the book and the mysterious author was AMAZING. So fun to follow these characters through months of their lives as they get to know each other and see the postcards and notes they leave each other between the pages.

KristiAhlers I also thought this one was a fun and totally unique read. 12mo

I‘m done but I don‘t think I know what happened?
A rich guy leaves a scavenger hunt for people to win his fortune after he dies but there are 2 people pretending to be the same person and potentially a murder and potentially a massive new find for the art community and potentially a love story and potentially a real ghost but not the ghost of the scavenger hunt guy or the potential murder. Someone please read this and tell me if I‘m just dumb.

If anyone needs me, I will be scrubbing this book out of my brain.
For how beautifully the author tried to write queerness, it was ruined by the end. Pin and Glory‘s relationship was potentially the only thing I liked about this book.
I was never anything but indifferent toward our MC, Pin. Henry is a no, Charlie Chaplin appearing is a no, and our villain? A MASSIVE FUCK NO.
The metaphor of men seeing young girls as “toys” just didn‘t hit.

Shiori is an amazing MC. Her stubbornness and humor make her such a fun character to follow. I love the sequel as much as the first book, which says quite a lot.
This duology makes me want to read the original fairytale but also, there‘s no way it‘s as good as these books🤷🏻‍♀️

It is very good though. I really enjoyed it and it‘s message. The writing was great and made it a quick read.
Also, it‘s taken about 10 years but this book has finally dethroned Cassandra Clare from the spot of: most heinous sentence I‘ve ever read. Better late than never I guess.

You ever get 200 pages into a sequel and realize the author has no intention of moving the plot along until the very end so you‘ll have to buy the next book? Bc I just did. There were exactly 3 plot points in the whole book and they could‘ve been the first 40 pages of the next book.
Still gonna finish the series

My new favorite duology. I love how each book followed a different twin but still showed how their lives intertwined the whole time.
Red is to be sacrificed to the Wolf to keep her kingdom safe, but she might not be the only person given a role they don‘t want.
Neve is trapped in the Shadowlands after trying to save her sister and the only person she can trust might be the one person she shouldn‘t.

I really enjoyed this sequel! Abriella‘s character stayed true to her original wants and goals which was great, because that typically doesn‘t happen in a fantasy book once the MC meets and is with her love interest. Felt a bit ACOTAR-ish at the end but still a fun ending. I wanted her to kick a couple people‘s asses more but that‘s probably just me.
Side note: fuck that guy on the cover, 2/10 would not recommend him

Kicking off, sequels that came out this week. I was slightly disappointed in this sequel. I loved the first book so much and it just felt like it took 200 pages to get into anything again. It was a good ending to the series though, I like how it wrapped up everyone, especially Briseis.

This book covers a lot of family trauma and how times of crisis are particularly exacerbating. I liked the narrating from different POV‘s but wished we could‘ve heard from the main character‘s daughters. This will easily be one of my favorite books of the year. This book is so beautifully written and wonderfully melancholy.
Ada was born with “one foot on the other side”, hosting gods and goddess inside her body from the day of her birth. After a traumatic event makes the other selves more prone to keeping control of Ada‘s body to help protect her, Ada feels herself fading into the background and losing control of her own mind.

You will never convince me that even though this book is about magic and monsters and gods and identity crises, it is ABSOLUTELY a romance.

These will definitely be the last Nevil Shute books I read. Pied Piper isn‘t as bad as the last one in terms of racism and terminology, still a bit white savior-y for me.
An Old Captivity is definitely a skip. He‘s back to all of his racism and sexism, but with a bit of a magical realism twist I wasn‘t expecting from him.

I would rate this book 0 stars but my Grandpa asked me to read it as it‘s his favorite book so I will give it a 1. Yes it‘s a “product of its time” but tries to be enlightened with unpopular takes for the time on racism, religion, and colonialism, all while the main character does not exhibit the ideals he pretends to be enlightened about. A gross simplification of Eastern philosophy and religion. Absolutely do not recommend

CarolynM Yeah, Shute's politics were pretty awful. Some of the stories are good, but I'd definitely advise you to skip this one 2y
KelsiTaylor @CarolynM is the rest of his writing the same way because the narrator just felt so condescending? 2y
