A Bad Deal for the Whole Galaxy
A Bad Deal for the Whole Galaxy | Alex White
13 posts | 10 read | 13 to read
The greatest dangers hide the brightest treasures in this bold, planet-hopping science fiction adventure series. The crew of the legendary Capricious are rich enough to retire in comfort for the rest of their days, but none of it matters if the galaxy is still in danger. Nilah and Boots, the ship's newest crew-members hear the word of a mysterious cult that may have links back to an ancient and all-powerful magic. To find it, hot-headed Nilah will have to go undercover and find the source of their power without revealing her true identity. Meanwhile, Boots is forced to confront the one person she'd hoped never to see again: her old, turn-coat treasure-hunting partner. Sometimes you just need a ragtag crew of war hardened space pirates to blast the crap out of a planet‘s worth of despots to make you feel better. 🙌
Book 2 in the Salvagers series. Kind of like a queer Firefly with a bit of magic alongside the futuristic tech. Lots of plot, lots of battles (mostly close combat) completely absorbing.

Holy cow! This game ate 2 weeks of my life. I finished it this afternoon and while I really really friggen loved it...I'm glad I'm done cuz I've hardly been reading any at all and I've really missed this book that I had started right before the game came out.

I have too many hobbies and the nerd life is tough sometimes. 😜

Branwen My boyfriend just recently finished playing this too! He has a huge video game hangover because of it! 😂🤣😂🤣 He said it is his favorite game of the year so far! I loved watching him play it, the graphics were extraordinary! 🤤💖 4y
wanderinglynn Nerd life is tough! I may have to pick this game up—it looks intriguing. I haven‘t really played any since Horizon Zero Dawn as no other game has been as awesome as HZD. 4y
GypsyKat I‘m so with you about too many hobbies! Too many games and books and not enough time for them all! 😆 4y

I wasn't originally planning on jumping right into book 2 of the Salvagers trilogy right away, and I have read another book between them, but I'll be damned if I couldn't stop thinking about this series and how much I liked the first one.

So here we are. Why fight it? I'm jumping into book two tonight. 🤘

GypsyKat See now, this is the kind of post that make me want to read the books! 4y
GrilledCheeseSamurai It's such an easy to read fun series with a TON of action. 🤘 4y

Finally finished a book this month! And what a fantastic book it was. Bk2 in The Salvagers series, it continues the crusade of the crew of the Capricious against the cult known as the Children of Singularity and it‘s leader, Henrick Witts. I love the mythology of this universe, it‘s like a cross between Firefly & Anne McCaffrey‘s “Crystal Singer” with magic thrown in. Loved it and can‘t wait to read Bk3. 5⭐️

My last day of the Queens Birthday long weekend was a good one. We got the main structure of our new fire pit area up & roofed, it‘s made from old telegraph poles & corrugated tin sheets with branches from my jacaranda as braces. We‘re paving it then making a built in bench & wood storage bin this week hopefully. Another beautiful sunset, reflecting off the huge gum tree next door. And I managed to finish this brilliant book, review to follow.

So this was my Saturday, potting up some flowers & bulbs, watering my gardens, checking out all the seedlings I started in the greenhouse, sitting in the sun, reading a book before watching the sun set in a beautiful show of colour. What was your day like?🌻🌼🌸🌞

Butterfinger Waking up to a muggy morning, but I am in the woods so it is not bad. 4y

It‘s such a perfect autumn day here I‘m set up in my backyard in the sun to finally get some reading done. I‘ve watered the veggie garden(which is going great), the flowers have the sprinkler in them and the rest of the potting can wait till tomorrow. Hopefully I can get a few chapters in, though I‘m exhausted after my asshole neighbours partied till 8.30 this morning. And now they‘re out there again!😡 #bloominglitsy #isolationinteractions

This is a pick for me... But verging on so-so, as a personal rating. The cast is fun, the magic is fascinating and the author really knows how to keep it action-packed. Personally, I get a little bored by all the fight sequences and there are deeper topics that characters will think about for a couple lines, but are otherwise glossed over (e.g. where's the line between pretending to be evil v becoming evil). I'll probably read the next one.

stephothebesto To anyone who's read it - who would you cast for movie adaptation? I always picture Alex Borstein, aka Susie from Mrs. Maisel, as Boots. 5y

Just finished “A Bad Deal for the Whole Galaxy,“ vol. 2 in The Salvagers series by Alex White.
If you love Star Wars, Firefly, and space operas with underdog heroes that combine hard science with magic (and I really, really do) then this series is for you.

#BookMail Pt5 This one is the 2nd book in the Salvagers series which started with A Big Ship At The Edge Of The Universe. Another sci-fi series(obviously🙄)it‘s full of action, snark, killer bots plus, uniquely, involves magical abilities as well. It reminds me of a mashup of Firefly, Dark Matter & Anne McCaffreys ‘CrystalSinger‘ series. Highly recommended. ♥️♥️♥️
