Popped into an opshop near to a friends house after I delivered her some prepared meals since she's recently broken her arm. I spent a lovely 2 hours browsing through every shelf, promising myself I would only take home a couple. I ended up with 38! A few for my kids and a couple as gifts.
Here are 10.
My favorite one, which has been on my wishlist for a while, is Seven Little Australians!
Excited about Lilac Girls and Firefly Lane too.

CarolynM Seven Little Australians 😭😭😭 3y
Sleepswithbooks This is awesome!! 38!!! 3y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @CarolynM lol, I am prepared! I have never read it and we only have an illustrated, abridged copy so I've been on the lookout for the original full length version. I actually found a copy in both op shops today, I only paid 50 cents for it too! I needed some pampering this week, it's been flat out here! 3y

Curiouser_and_curiouser @Sleepswithbooks I know right!? At 50 cents each I was thrilled. I expected them to be a dollar each, which is already cheap enough, but there was a special. Super lucky 😍 3y
Crazeedi You chose some great books! Christmas in February! 3y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Crazeedi 😍😍😍 Sure was! I don't need to ever complain about not getting books at Christmas when I can visit the opshop all year round, and for only a few dollars a trip! 3y

#3Books #ThatMadeMeCry

These are the 3 that come immediately to mind. SO many tears shed over them💔💔💔

LeahBergen Oh. I have the two on the right waiting on my shelves. 😬 4y
Ruthiella When did you cry in My Brilliant Career? When she makes a the big decision at the end? 4y
CarolynM @Ruthiella I cried at that bit, but I had already started crying well before that. I think I started when she had to leave Cadagat and then just kept it up from there. I totally identified with Sybylla. Bear in mind I was 14 when I read it first. 4y

Ruthiella @CarolynM I understand. I only read it a couple years ago but could see easily where a teenager would be swept away...she wasn‘t much older than a teenager when she wrote it. Like Jo in Little Women, I admired but also bewailed her decision... (edited) 4y
LeeRHarry Oh god I bawled at Testament of Youth 😭 4y

#ReadingResolutions #day2 #ShelfieSaturday I‘m very quickly running out of room in my library already. Though, a few shelves have other things on them like pictures & my mug/teapot collections. I‘m planning on starting a huge reshuffle of my shelves in Spring, make a database of all books, re-order the shelves & make dedicated shelves for each set of editions like my Bloomsbury Modern Classics, my WordClouds & all my signed books. #LibraryGoals

Cathythoughts How gorgeous 💕 6y
Chrissyreadit Fun! Are those miniature books on top or camera angle? You have pretty editions! 6y
ladym30 Love the owls!! 6y
Karkar Marvin!!!!! 😍 I love him!!!! 6y
Lizpixie @Cathythoughts thanks! @Chrissyreadit just camera angle, they‘re Orange Penguin Editions mostly, @ladym30 owl was one of my nicknames at school coz I was a total bookworm & nightowl. Still am! @Karkar “That creature has stolen the space modulator!” Looooove Marvin! And Elmer Fudd. Plus Daffy. Oh, and Foghorn Leghorn! “That‘s a joke, I say that‘s a joke son” My hubby‘s fave is Yosemite Sam “Shutup ya idjit!” Looney Tunes were a staple at my house! 6y

#BookMail No1 from today was the Little Penguin Classics Edition of this famous Australian children‘s story, I already have Playing Beatie Bow & Picnic At Hanging Rock in these editions. This is a story about how Aussie kids are a bit wild & naughty, but lovable as well. Every Aussie has a bit of larrikin in them, it‘s what makes us, well, us! #NewYearNewBooks #SoManyBooksSoLittleFunds

Missusb These are such gorgeous editions 6y

#BookMail today was 3 books for me, 6 books for other Littens! I have been promised that a chariot will await me on Friday to take me to the post office so I can send some rather overdue packages out! All I can do is apologise again to the Littens I‘ve let down. Please understand it wasn‘t deliberate, my traitorous body let all of us down. But, I‘m slowly getting better, no crutches anymore, so the rest of January will be me catching up. 😘❤️😘❤️

LeeRHarry Don't you stress - just concentrate on feeling better 💕 6y
LeahBergen Yes, don‘t worry! Just take good care of yourself. 😘 6y
erzascarletbookgasm Yay no crutches anymore! Take care and happy reading! 6y
ScorpioBookDreams Ooh let me know what Meddling Kids is like! Please don‘t worry about delayed packages or anything like that. I have a chronic illness too so completely understand 💕 6y

Pickpick

While I was slightly perplexed at the statement that none of the children in this book are 'really good for the excellent reason that Australian children never are' (but on reflection, it's probably more true than not) it's was an utterly charming book where I felt right at home. I did realise towards the end that I'd seen at least part of the miniseries (as a small child) as the most heart wrenching part of the book was lodged in my memory.

Lizpixie Having been one of five children and having four of my own with three grandchildren, I'd say that statement was pretty much true! 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Lizpixie, I was an only child for a long time... so I think I was mostly good 😉😇 (edited) 7y

Fighting the temptation to put this one in the freezer, Joey style. I sense something horrible is coming... and my sister has already driven my car into the neighbours garage door today (and there is a limit to how much I can take)

BookInMyHands Oh no! My sister and brother both totaled cars of mine. Siblings 🙄! And good luck with the book. I can't even handle Goosebumps. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @BookInMyHands, I don't think it's totalled but I won't find out until it's towed to the repairers on Monday. It's my first car so feeling quite emotional about it (plus damaging neighbours property is pretty awkward). Just finished my book, it was more an impending sense of doom than anything (I've never even tried Goosebumps, I barely got through watching Disney's Snow White as a kid) 7y
DebinHawaii Oh no! I hope the damage isn't too bad. 😱 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @DebinHawaii, same. Not a great way to start the weekend. Fingers crossed for good news. 7y

Really enjoying this so far!
Aside from a few mentions of corsets and catapults it doesn't feel like it was published in 1894 at all...

Mum was all YOU'RE GOING TO NEED TISSUES when I told her I was reading it... so now I'm reading scared. Thanks Mum 🙄

8little_paws This cover is adorable 😊 7y
Marchpane My mum loves this one too but I've never read it! 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Marchpane, nothing tear inducing yet. It's actually quite lovely. 7y

LeahBergen This cover! 😍 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @LeahBergen, isn't it gorgeous! I think I have all the kids names down now. I was going to borrow it from the library but couldn't resist this cover at the bookstore. It's really enjoyable so far but my mum keeps saying I'll need tissues soon (so now I'm worried about what's going to happen) 7y
