Queen of Ruin
Queen of Ruin | Tracy Banghart
A fierce fantasy sequel full of sisterhood, strength, and betrayal, that "breathes new life into the feminist story of oppression and resistance" (Publisher's Weekly). Banished by Asa at the end of Grace and Fury, Nomi finds herself powerless and headed towards her all-but-certain death. Her only hope is to find her sister, Serina, on the prison island of Mount Ruin. But when Nomi arrives, it is not the island of conquered, broken women that she expected. It is an island in the grip of revolution, and Serina--polite, submissive Serina--is its leader. Betrayal, grief, and violence have changed both sisters, and the women of Mount Ruin have their sights set on revenge beyond the confines of their island prison. They plan to sweep across the entire kingdom, issuing in a new age of freedom for all. But first they'll have to take control of the throne, and only Nomi knows how. Separated once again, this time by choice, Nomi and Serina must forge their own paths as they aim to tear down the world they know, and build something better in its place. The stakes are higher and the battles bolder in Tracy Banghart's unputdownable sequel to Grace and Fury.

I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 287.

Quick read I though the book was pretty good. My only problem was that Asa didn‘t put up a bigger fight!

The second in the duology of Grace and Fury started out slow. I almost gave up on it. Honestly not sure if it was the book or my sudden obsession with Hamilton... but it took about 150 pages before it picked up enough to really suck me into the story. And then I couldn‘t stop. Love these sisters (and the covers for both books are stunning) who are clearly not throwing away their shot. 😉

Been years since I read the first book. And reading this again made me remember how good this duology is! So good!

Good end to a duopoly. However, the ending kind of left me wanting more. I wanted more Nomi and Malachi! I wanted more Asa!! The ending is open ended and it made me wonder what will happen next. I also found the last half of the book to be rush!! Nomi is by far my favourite character! I loved reading her POV!! The writing flows nicely and the chapters aren‘t too long in length!!

Best if read together with “Grace & Fury” — its Part 1, which I felt was stronger overall. Honestly, this is Serena‘s story, wish her struggles and evolution was the main focus rather than the equal switching of POV with Nomi.

I read book two to complete the weekly Epic Reads challenge. I liked book one Grace and Fury. This series was ok, not great, but good enough to read. Does that make sense?

So glad I picked up the 2nd part of this duology right away. It was a good conclusion to what the first started. While it picks up where the first left off, it still starts a bit slowly. At the same time, the characters build both their own goals & their relationships with each other really well. Banghart also does a good job of clarifying those goals as the characters continue. It was a fun read, and I could definitely see myself revisiting this.

Week 5 check-in: Seriously, adjusting to this new schedule is so hard! Plus a cold, Back to School Night, & my knee acting up again. But I decided that if I couldn't get my exercise on (besides work, anyway), I'd at least get my water! Maybe this will be the 3 star week?

This is a super ambitious set of #ReadingGoals, especially considering I really want to reread both the Kopp Sisters and the Strike series overall before I get to the new ones. But I'm 2/3 through Queen of Ruin, so we'll see! #SeptemberTBR #SelfImprovementSept

If you're looking for me at #NatBookFest, look for someone reading in the food line. 😂

Chrissyreadit How is the book? Any favorite speakers? I‘m enjoying some science right now, but hoping to hear Markus Zusak next 5y
jmtrivera @Chrissyreadit V.E. Schwab was probably my favorite, but I nearly died when Ann M. Martin read from the first original Baby-sitters Club to the crowd. My childhood self is still weeping with joy! 😄 5y

I have been waiting for this book for a year after reading Grace and Fury and this book didn't disappoint at all! I loved seeing how Nomi and Serina journey continued. This group of kick ass women were not going to let her evil ruler kill them. I loved seeing them get their happy ending as well!

This is the sequel to Grace and Fury. I have to say, honestly, I like the Owlcrate cover of book one better, and I don't really like this cover either. But I know there are people eagerly awaiting this book.
