The death of a fiendish nobleman strikes close to home as Sebastian St. Cyr is tasked with finding the killer to save his young cousin from persecution in this riveting new historical mystery from the USA Today bestselling author of Why Kill the Innocent.... When the handsome but dissolute young gentleman Lord Ashworth is found brutally murdered, Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin, is called in by Bow Street magistrate Sir Henry Lovejoy to help catch the killer. Just seven months before, Sebastian had suspected Ashworth of aiding one of his longtime friends and companions in the kidnapping and murder of a string of vulnerable street children. But Sebastian was never able to prove Ashworth's complicity. Nor was he able to prevent his troubled, headstrong young niece Stephanie from entering into a disastrous marriage with the dangerous nobleman. Stephanie has survived the difficult birth of twin sons. But Sebastian soon discovers that her marriage has quickly degenerated into a sham. Ashworth abandoned his pregnant bride at his father's Park Street mansion and has continued living an essentially bachelor existence. And mounting evidence--ranging from a small bloody handprint to a woman's silk stocking--suggests that Ashworth's killer was a woman. Sebastian is tasked with unraveling the shocking nest of secrets surrounding Ashworth's life to keep Stephanie from being punished for his death.

I fell behind on this series. I wish I hadn‘t, but this was the perfect book to break a slump. I love Harris‘s writing style, and it‘s great to be back in her version of Regency England with Sebastian and friends. The ending felt a bit rushed and too neat, but I can overlook that in favor of the joy I get from reading the rest. Too dark to be considered a cozy, but not so graphic as to be unbearably traumatizing. TW in comments.

DGRachel There‘s brief mention of rape and child sexual abuse, in addition to the murders/mutilations. It‘s not graphic, but if it‘s something you are really sensitive to, it does kind of come out of nowhere and could be triggering. 3d
robinb My thoughts on this series exactly. 😊 I just purchased the latest a few days ago and am looking forward to reading it. 3d
DGRachel @robinb I knew I was behind but I didn‘t realize just how far behind. 😭 I don‘t know what happened as this used to be one of the very few series I read the second the books came out. 3d
robinb @DGRachel same here! I fell behind by about 3-4 books and then had a St. Cyr marathon. 😄 2d

Getting some reading in while the kiddo is at a fiddle club rehearsal! They have two performances coming up Labor Day weekend at a folk music festival and the nerves are starting to kick in for him as this will be the biggest audience he‘s played for since picking up cello a year ago.

It was a dreary day in Chicago yesterday, but I managed to start and finish the latest Sebastian St Cyr novel. Perfect read for such a day.

When evil is removed from the earth, are we obliged to figure out why? That's a primary question in the latest book in the Sebastian St. Cyr series. As Sebastian delves further into the salacious murder of his niece's reprehensible husband, Ashworth, he finds it hard to locate anyone who either didn't want the man dead or isn't glad to hear the news is his demise. But his death releases a slew of family secrets, and leaves evil with a new face.

Loved, loved, LOVED this book. The mystery was more complex than I originally thought and was very surprised by the murderer. I'm glad we got to see more of Hero and Sebastian's relationship. I adore this series so much. #audiobook #scribd #historicalmystery #historicalfiction

#TBRtemptation post 1! This is installment #14 in the Sebastian St. Cyr mystery series. A fiendish nobleman is found murdered, and St. Cyr‘s dear niece, now widow, is in the crosshairs as the alleged culprit, as mounting evidence suggests a woman killer. There are a great many secrets and illegalities surrounding the victim, and extricating fact from fiction as shocking revelations mount is a difficult task. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

Crazeedi I started that series a couple years ago. Cant remember if I read 2 or 3, now I have to put this back on my radar 5y

I simply savor each new book that comes out in this historical mystery series, and this latest one (14th) did not disappoint. In a bit of a twist, the initial murder victim here is also one of the vilest, most sadistic villains that this series has produced...so no tears over losing him! 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ But the victims start piling up, and the perpetrator totally surprised me! 😳 I just love the way these characters have grown and developed! ❤️

5/5💛

DGRachel I totally forgot about this one! I preordered the Kindle copy and it quietly hit my account without my notice. I wish I didn‘t have other things I HAVE to read right now. Good to know it doesn‘t disappoint! 5y
robinb @DGRachel Yes, I didn‘t order (I usually wait until it gets a little less expensive eventually). I got anxious for it and got it from library (was surprised they already had it). I‘m slowly purchasing all of them as I can. 😊 I have others that need to be reviewed from Net Galley, but St. Cyr trumps them every time! 🤣🤣 5y

1. One of my monkeys at the neighborhood park last Sunday.
2. I like my actual house. And Tucson‘s foodie scene. I hate the heat in the summer though. And summer here is May-October. 😭😭

I love this series a ridiculous amount, so when Shelf Awareness sent me the new one for review, I was thrilled.

Looking for a darkly atmospheric mystery series that explores the seedy side of Regency London, with a bit of soap opera-esque family drama on the side? Look no further!! 😍 Plus I kind of have a crush on Sebastian St. Cyr. #bookcrush #valentinesday #howjessreadsin2019 #sebastianstcyr

DGRachel Oooh, so jealous! I LOVE this series and Sebastian! 5y

Another great entry into the series. The mystery was excellent and it was nice to see more of some of the previous characters. I'm still a little annoyed at the dumbing down of Hero and I really wish Amanda would get what's coming to her but definitely a worthwhile read.

I got an ARC of this and stayed up way too late reading it. Diving straight back into it this morning with an extra large cup of coffee!

DGRachel Totally jealous! I can‘t wait to get my grabby hands on this one! 5y
