Walking Dead Volume 2: Miles Behind Us
Walking Dead Volume 2: Miles Behind Us | Robert Kirkman
18 posts | 79 read | 5 to read
The world we knew is gone. The world of commerce and frivolous necessity has been replaced by a world of survival and responsibility. An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe, causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. In a matter of months society has crumbled: no government, no grocery stores, no mail delivery, no cable TV. In a world ruled by the dead, the survivors are forced to finally start living. I enjoyed that this volume focused a bit more on people who aren't Rick. 😉 Dwight and the Saviors are taking on more tasks to help keep the communities safe, but leading a group is taking a toll on Dwight.

Tensions are high in this second volume as Rick and Shane clash over what to do. The cold becomes an issue and the group of survivors are forced to come to terms with the fact that the government isn't coming to save them anytime soon.

In their new world, Rick Grimes‘ group is learning that nothing and no one can be taken for granted. They are appreciative for the smallest things, such as showers, commodes, beds, food, and even space. In these trying times, tempers flare, teenagers know everything, and decisions and actions are questioned. Logic is what this group needs the most, especially when Herschel tells them that it is time to leave. Find out how they manage in Volume 2.

Let me telling ya‘ll a tale of the most horrible attraction lol....when you watch the show you expect greatness...I mean the sets inside where bad ass. The costuming on the walkers....ugh....that was bad. I‘ve seen better at the small attraction we have here at home during Halloween! #zombies #universal

As a fan of the show first, it's been interesting to read the differences in the comics. I've found myself more annoyed by some of the characters but I think that's to be expected. This series probably won't be top priority, but I'll slowly move through it. There's a lot to cover!!

stacybmartin I've been trying to read through these too! I'm up to Volume 16 - I'm definitely missing Daryl as a character! 8y
HollyB3 @stacybmartin agreed! And some of the character combinations are strange. Dale and Andrea are sleeping together?! Weird. 8y
stacybmartin @HollyB3 yes!! I was not expecting that at all. A little weirded out, tbh. 8y
HollyB3 @stacybmartin oh me too, me too! And I found Shane and Lori to be super annoying! Shane didn't bother me as much in the show, but every time he spoke in the comics I found myself eye-rolling so hard. 8y

I'm all caught up on my Walking Dead comics from the library! 10 volumes over the past month. I promised myself I'd catch up before this season started, and although I didn't quite make that I'm happy with my progress anyway. Even though it sometimes feels like a parallel dimension version of the show, I still enjoy the characters, their struggles, and am surprised by some of the choices they make, and what gets flipped between the show & comics.

MyNamesParadise I enjoy both equally well!! 8y
PenguinInFlight I like them both. It is amazing how different one is from the other, but I take them as separate entities and I don't want to yell "THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENED!" at the television. ?? 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @PenguinInFlight Yes, it doesn't bother me as much as it would with other series either, because the story actually stays very close, but they switch out scene's and characters enough that you aren't sure what will happen next on the show. 8y

Seekingtardis Agreed!! I love both as separate enjoyments 😍😍 8y
Bette I like them both as well. Am wondering if the show will speed up the Negen story...I felt like it lasted a long time in the graphic but I'm feeling like the show is moving faster. 🤔 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Bette I was wondering the same thing... is the Negan/Saviors storyline going to stretch the season, which they could easily do with the small scrimmages and interfighting at the various locations (the hilltop, kingdom, etc). Or are they going to cover it quickly, like mid season finale, and move on to the jump ahead in time a bit that happens in the comics after the break. 8y

Still good, but I'm a little grossed out by the Andrea/Dale hookup. So glad that didn't make it on the show!

Enjoying this more than I thought I would. Surprised certain people died way earlier in the comics than in the show!

Two long days at the hospital, and a 24 hour shift starting tomorrow morning...I'm recuperating/resting up with tea and zombies! Still really enjoying this comic, especially since I can read large arcs at once in the collected books.

BooksTeasAndBookishThings I bought the compendium volume 1 not too long ago!! I want to read, but have to finish the ones I am already reading if I ever get the chance! 8y
prowlix Good luck with your shift tomorrow! 8y

I'm surprised how quickly the group found the prison. Didn't happen until S3 of TV show. They didn't stay at Hershel's farm long; it felt interminable on the show. I'm curious how things will happen since the show's different. I like that I'm still being kept on my toes even though I know the story.
