Paris Letters | Janice MacLeod
15 posts | 31 read | 52 to read
What do you do when your great life-plan works out, and you're still unhappy? Successful, but on the verge of burnout, Janice MacLeod saved enough money to buy herself two years of freedom in Europe. Days into her stop in Paris, she met Christophe, and her fate was sealed. Forced to find a way to fund her expat future, Janice created a painted letter subscription service, sending out thousands of letters to people who are hungry to receive something beautiful. Paris Letters is the inspiring story of a woman who dared to discover a life she could love.

This book has been on my shelves for a minute - okay years, and finally found its way to my Bookspin list of 20. I‘m surprised I didn‘t read it when I still remembered the premise because I‘m fascinated by memoirs of those who realize a stalled life and sacrifice comfort and security to create more meaningful experiences. And this book is so pretty!

Tested the sample, but I'll pass on buying this. While I would frankly read the hell out of a memoir about someone prudently banking their savings in order to travel abroad for a year or two -- Hepburn and Grant's Holiday, anyone? -- this particular memoir seems wrapped around the author's romance with a Parisian native, and I could not have cared less.

esurient To recap: Detailed budgetary conversations and cost-benefit analyses of Parisian real-estate? Riveting, grounded, has me longing to read more. The author in flustered blushes because a cute local wished her bonjour? omg no, please get back to the economics. 4y
esurient I was very much reminded of books I've previously read in this same vein, and I'm afraid they clicked with me more. 4y

I thought this was going to be a bit too cliche for my taste at first but it turned out to be the perfect read for in-between more in-depth reads. A copywriter finds herself dulled with her day to day life, decides to save money to travel and ultimately finds love in Paris where she ends up living and making a living as a ‘letter artist‘. An uplifting memoir that I‘m glad I finally read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Paris Letters is a simple uncomplicated read with wonderful results. A nice collection of experiences in the city of love, I really enjoyed following the authors adventure. A great book about following your heart and daring to live your dream.

Doing a #twofer for this post because #Paris is pretty #FarFromHome for me. I have quite a few Paris-titled books on my shelves & on my Kindle. I‘ve read (or cooked from ) all but four of these.

Eggs Great collage! I‘ve enjoyed several of these 👏🏻📚👏🏻 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I have 4 of these on my TBR. I really need to get to bookish Paris! 4y

The pages of this book are getting a little worn, but that's because I have read and re-read it many times. Always an easy/light read when I need some inspiration to get things done, as it follows the story of author Janice MacLeod as she leaves her mundane life behind in the pursuit of new adventures.

As you can see, today's challenge was easy. I love memoirs - I planned to highlighted just one 'type' that I enjoy but I couldn't!

Cinfhen Memoirs are my jam too!!! 7y
Moonpa @Cinfhen I just saw your post and I haven't read any of the books in your photo - so my TBR just exploded!!! 7y

#wishicouldbethere #booktober I wish I could go back to Paris. I always love it there, except the last time I was there when I went for business. It was torture being there and not getting to go out and see the city.

Eastbriar I've been meaning to read this one for ages. I went to Paris on my honeymoon years ago, one of the most beautiful cities I've been to. I'd love to go back! 8y

I loved this book. It was an unexpected treat. For anyone who longs to quit their day job and go off on a galore-trotting travel adventure, this is for you. Did I mention there was a romance? Delicious read. Pairs well with macaroons and latte. 💖

At first I thought, this is just another Eat, Pray, Love. But to my delight it was a full blown romance novel, with our heroine in love with a boy and a place. A good dessert novel. Creme Brûlée, instead of the candy bars I usually satisfy my sweet tooth with.

Read this on the plane to (guess where) and really loved it. It's a lighthearted memoir about a young woman who figures out how to ditch her day job and go make art in Paris--and I'm a soft touch for stories like that. Of course, she picks up a handsome Parisian along the way--but you guessed that, right? It's basically Eat, Draw, Love--and I admit, I fell for it.

TeR Great review!😄 8y
