I read all three of the graphic novels in this series in the span of a week or so, I just couldn‘t put them down! They are definitely some of the most gripping and moving things I‘ve read recently, and I couldn‘t recommend them highly enough if you haven‘t read them yet.

Why Read Moby-Dick? | Nathaniel Philbrick
post image

Starting off my year getting my bullet journal set up and preparing for Moby Dick! I‘ve read Moby Dick before, but I still like going through this little book before I reread it. It‘s a great companion read, Philbrick brings great insight and context to the novel and to Melville.

Started reading this one a week ago and so far it's living up to all the praise it has received. I find myself reading it in little chunks to savor the story. Lately I've been reading much more slowly than usual, anyone else get this way? I like the books I'm reading, I just seem to be going at a snail's pace with all my books!

After finishing The Aviator's Wife I wanted to read some of Anne Morrow Lindbergh's work, so I picked this one up. I really enjoyed this short and calming read about the importance of slowing down and finding some solitude and time for yourself.

LauraBrook My grandma loved this book and I have her copy - methinks I should read it some time soon, feels like I need it in my life. 7y
DrSabrinaMoldenReads I highly recommend "Against Wind and Tide" 7y
Kimzey I loved this book in my teens. I bet I'd receive even more wisdom from it now. I need to hunt down my copy and reread! 🌊 7y

I was on the library waiting list for MONTHS to get this one! There was so much hype around this last year, and I was very curious how much like the Manson story it would be, so couldn't wait to start on it. It was a very engrossing read and I finished it in a couple of days, but there was something missing for me...and I can't quite put my finger on it. Can't say I loved it but it was a fascinating & quick read.

KilgoreTrout I felt the same way! 7y
Mamashep I didn't love it either but it was certainly well worth the reading. 7y

Had such a difficult time getting into this one but I'm glad I stuck with it. It was probably the most emotionally draining book I've ever read, but the writing was so amazing, it was just an engrossing read. This book was quite an experience, but I understand that it might not be for everyone.

HeatherBookNerd Oh my heart. Completely devastating, but one of the best books I've ever read. I have never read such an accurate depiction of loving someone with mental illness. 7y

So I've been wanting to read this for ages and finally started recently....and I'm struggling to get into this. I'm about 70 pages in and I just can't get into it. I've heard so many wonderful things so I'm going to stick with it, but did anyone else have this issue??

TrishB Didn't kick in for me until about 100 pages - which was all I was going to give it! 7y
HardcoverHearts This is one that I love dearly and it changed me as a reader, but I also recognize that it is most assuredly not a novel for everyone. It's a journey. One thing to keep in mind is that there is a massive pivot about 1/4 of the way through the book where the ensemble view narrows to one character. Maybe hang in until it starts to change and see if that helps you connect more? But ultimately - no shame if you dump it. 7y
ElizaTodd I've been having an insanely hard time getting into this one! I've heard such good things so I want to push forward, just gotta get into the mindset to do it! 7y

Starting January 1st with a new book and some "titanium tea" a mix of black tea, green tea, and turmeric and ginger. With a bit of coconut oil added for creaminess. This is supposed to help with focus and metabolism ?Not sure how I feel about it just yet, but the book is good at least!

These books...I had such a rough start with the first one but now I don't want them to end. This novel follows Elena and Lila into their 20s and 30s amid their changing personal lives and the volatile political situation of that time. At the center though is their intense friendship.I felt like I was holding my breath the last 50 pages waiting to see where it would go. I feel so invested in these characters now, I'll be sad to have it end!

JodyS I struggled with the first have, but once I started reading the second half the first half made more sense. It wasn't a great read as all the hype suggests but it was alright. 8y
Matilda I liked Fates and loved Furies. I read it as an arc so I had no hype and was able to just go in blind and really like it. Left me thinking for a while. 8y

Megabooks Eh. I finished it. That felt like an accomplishment. 8y
