I love this series so much. Midwife and cop in old NYC solving murders. I like the side stories too.

True struggle- I love to read more than anything - but when I‘m facing crisis after crisis at work (because our supports for mental health are woefully inadequate) and have family with COVID, and am trying to stay healthy and worried about mom things for my teens and daughter things for my mom- I‘m failing all my book obligations because I‘m scared the book will make me sad, or require more focus than I have. So serial mystery it is. Anyone else?

Addison_Reads I hope the book gives you some distraction. 💚 2y
wanderinglynn That‘s why I predominantly read romance last year. I needed the light read and HEA. 2y
DrexEdit Take care of you and read what feels good, not what you think you should. 💖 2y

JamieArc Oh, I feel this! This is why I never judge what people read. 🤗🤗🤗 2y
Bookwormjillk I hear you. This month has been a lot. 2y
megnews Reading should provide whatever you‘re needing at that time in your life. Which is also the amazing thing about reading—because it can do that. Read what you need right now. 😊 2y
Leftcoastzen Give yourself a break , you have so much going on , you need some comfort food type reading. I like this series & hope to get back to it . Hope things improve soon! 2y
MicrobeMom Yes!! Don‘t force it! You have so much on your place. Find what and do what gives you peace. If reading isn‘t it, take a break. ♥️♥️♥️ 2y
LiteraryinLawrence I completely relate to this. For about 6 months in 2021 I barely could focus on anything I tried to read. I would start something and not connect and give up. I found that watching things on Netflix was more my speed during this time: still storytelling but in a different format. Hope you find what works for you and that life gets easier soon. 💗 2y
DGRachel Read what makes you happy. There have been lots of times when I had a stack of heavy reads for book clubs/challenges/buddy reads, etc and life was just too much, so I tossed all those “should” reads to the side and picked up comfort (re)reads. Find escape anyway you can. 2y
BarbaraJean 🤗 💜 I feel this!! My stress level from work this week has been ridiculous, and I haven‘t been able to shake it off for the weekend. I‘m canceling some obligations and hunkering down with a peaceful read tonight. Read what you can and want to read! Hope things calm down soon and that you find spaces of peace in the meantime. 2y
Butterfinger The books are only a challenge. It's not a grade. You read what you need to escape. The reading to learn and grow will still be there waiting. Chrissy, what can I do to help? Do you want me to do February for events? It will be one less thing and it's something I can do. 2y
cariashley Hang in there, I have been there. I agree with @wanderinglynn on romance but try whatever feels low intensity and is distracting. I think romance works for me because it‘s usually formulaic, so serial mysteries make a lot of sense too! 2y
Susanita Ugh. I‘m sorry life is dumping on you at the moment. 2y
KathyWheeler That‘s exactly what I do when I can‘t concentrate. I guess because the format and the characters are so familiar that I don‘t have to think too much. 2y
JenReadsAlot Take good care of yourself! 2y
Laughterhp I understand completely. I definitely read comfort reads when I‘m overwhelmed. Read what you want and take a break if necessary. 2y
bthegood @JamieArc agree!! @Chrissyreadit take the advice you'd give a friend 🥰 2y
kspenmoll I am so sorry you are going through so much. I totally understand the work situation- mine is like that with HS students Covid, etc. I had to abandon challenges that were too real this month & mostly read mysteries. My reading has become my escape from life. Think of it as self care. Been there with caught between generations as well. But all at once for you is way too much. Read mysteries & romance with pleasure! 2y
Chrissyreadit @Butterfinger thank you for your offer! I‘m excited about trying it and have a partner this month- I‘m going to check in with her. What did you think of January? Hard?easy? 2y
Butterfinger It wasn't hard. Just stressful when you think you may have missed something. Don't forget to check the tags. And I would always feel stupidly anxious each time I logged off Butterfinger to log in to Litsy Events, like my phone won't remember my password and I won't be able to get back on to Litsy. Litsy is my lifeline Chrissy. 😂😂 You email me if you need anything. 2y
Chrissyreadit @Butterfinger litsy is totally my lifeline too 🙌🤣🙌 2y
Nute I‘m feeling you, Chrissy! My reading habits have been unrecognizable to myself for the past 2 years. Finally, I just let the moment define itself. You don‘t have to explain your reading choices or quantify the amount of reading accomplished. Let reading be the balm in whatever way works to make the other stuff doable and bring some relaxing moments at the end of the day. Take Care!💕 2y
Reggie Oof when work opened back up last year, I could barely get through a novella. And so I stuck with novellas for a while. You gotta do what‘s right for you. Take care! 2y
Chrissyreadit @Nute @Reggie thank you! 😘 2y
Chelleo 💕💕💕💕 2y
Avanders Yep - cozies are great for when my brain is otherwise tapped. ♥️♥️ Between this and getting sick yourself… Give yourself all the breaks! 💙💙 2y

It still crops my pictures. Why, @Litsy ??

Anyway, gaslamp fantasy is neat but this lady keeps it too prim and straightforward. The love story is barely there!

This is Beancat and he approved this message.

Litsy Sorry for the trouble. Litsy can only support square photos at this point. Let us know if you have any questions - you can email us at: litsy@librarything.com. 5y

Mehso-so

I enjoyed this much less than the previous books in series, maybe because I read it instead of listening to the audio. I tend to get caught up in a narrator‘s voice, and the faults in the story are glossed over. Reading, on the other hand, exposes every flaw.

RaimeyGallant It does! And welcome! 6y
