It‘s hard as heck to see (sorry), but with the tagged book I have completed the #litsyatoz challenge for 2020!!! I‘m also well on my way of exceeding the number of books read in a year in decades (since my voracious reading in my teen and preteen years). #blameitonlitsy

@BookishMarginalia started this challenge the year Litsy began and I‘ve been doing it since its second year. It‘s a great fun and hard challenge!!

This is a fantastic read for about 5th-6th graders—there are some tough topics for kids too much younger—to learn what is was like for survivors from Hurricane Katrina and the flooding in NOLA. I think it is a worthwhile read for adults, too. An excellent reminder of the need for empathy. Very well written with likable characters. #litsyatoz #letterZ

I‘m so worried about all y‘all in Hurricane Laura‘s path now, especially since she‘s become a category 4 and reading this book isn‘t helping. But it is making me think constantly about y‘all. Please take care, and let us know if you need anything!

I feel ya kiddo. I remember when my grandparents didn‘t have air conditioning. When they got it, they wouldn‘t use it. Central Texas, where they lived out in the country, was probably not quite so humid as New Orleans in this book, but I can feel the heat now in the depths of August. It‘s just downright hot, a giant oven baking us all.

Map from the tagged read and made me think about poor Louisiana this week. I am praying for the best for them and everyone who will be impacted by Marco and Laura.

I had a different #letterZ book lined up but then came across this one. It‘s short and sounds interesting. And so upon completion I will have finished my #LitsyAtoZ challenge for 2020.

Book 4 of the Socially Distant Spring Break... what to read when you are experiencing tough times?… stories about people experiencing even rougher times! Lol. Love this author and the wonderful characters he invokes.  A rich and powerful glimpse into a monumental disaster.

More options for #middlegradeMay. I plan on reading Wish for sure, I got it on Audible for a $1.95 the other day. Zane and the hurricane is on my litsy A to Z challenge. Have you read any of these?

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 A middle grade book about Hurricane Katrina and it's aftermath. Such a heartbreaking and frustrating read, the lack of government support is infuriating. Not unlike what's been happening with Puerto Rico. Worth a read if you're interested in what happened after the levees broke and how people fought to survive.

4 1/2 Stars. Newbery Honor book. Great book for your middle grade readers. Thought provoking yet age appropriate account of Katrina.

Hi Littens! I feel like I have been MIA as the new school year has been starting.

Currently reading this in hopes for it to be my first novel length #ReadAloud for the year.

Started a new book today for the #LitsyAtoZ challenge but took a break for some book end painting with my girl. She's so crafty and it makes my heart happy to create things with her.

This was an easy read and very much in the style of Philbrick... the New Orleans accent was a bit challenging at times as it didn't feel like it flowed well, however, it did serve to develop characters. I liked that Philbrick included non-fiction in the back about Katrina.

Has anyone read this book? Or have a recommendation for a good book to read on a similar topic, Hurricane Katrina? I am looking to have my middle school students read and explore about the aftermath of this natural disaster and its effects on people just like them.
