NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Scotland, 1766. Sentenced to a life of misery in the brutal coal mines, twenty-one-year-old Mack McAsh hungers for escape. His only ally: the beautiful, highborn Lizzie Hallim, who is trapped in her own kind of hell. Though separated by politics and position, these two restless young people are bound by their passionate search for a place called freedom. From the teeming streets of London to the infernal hold of a slave ship to a sprawling Virginia plantation, Ken Folletts turbulent, unforgettable novel of liberty and revolution brings together a vivid cast of heroes and villains, lovers and rebels, hypocrites and hell-raisersall propelled by destiny toward an epic struggle that will change their lives forever. Follett is one of my favorite authors, so of course I enjoyed this. However, this reminded me of a John Jakes novel. Perhaps it's because this takes place before the American Revolution.

Savugirl @Nute I'm sure Mr. Jakes would be pleased to know that he hasn't been forgotten. What was the first time he came up? 4y

Another excellent Ken Follett book, is he capable of writing a bad book! This book left me wanting to keep reading on, anytime I put it down it was for a very short period. You have to eat! 😂 Although almost 600 Pages I gobbled this book up and finished in just over 24 hours. Definitely recommended. A great story with some interesting twists along the way - you end up cheering your favourite characters and hissing at the anti heroes.

Freespirit Stacked...I love his books😍 5y
Nute You‘ve got me seeing stars over this book.🤩Stacked! 5y
Andrew65 @Freespirit @Nute He does write great books. 5y

Master storyteller, Ken Follett, takes us from the Scottish Highlands to London and onto colonial America with a powerful story of love, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Mack McAsh and Lizzie Hallim are searching for #APlaceCalledFreedom. With well-developed characters and a plot with twists and turns, I found the book unputdownable. Looking forward to my next #KenFollett book. I recommend this one to those who love historical adventure.

Tove_Reads @EadieB @Andrew65 Had to start somewhere, because we have so many books to read, and we usually start the month with Follett. I could read Hayder/Casey next week. Would that be possible for you? Can you believe I‘m still waiting for 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads @Andrew65 that‘s fine with me! 5y
Andrew65 Been a very busy work week so not been able to read much since Monday. I would suggest Ken Follett, followed by Hayder. @EadieB @Tove_Reads 5y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 @EadieB Works for me! I‘ll be away in the national park basically without human contact next week. This Follett is a fast read! 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads After all the human contact I‘ve had this week, that sounds heavenly! 😂 @EadieB 5y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 Tell me about it! I‘m so happy! Forest, sauna, lake, bbq, books... 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Follett followed by Hayden works for me too! @Tove_Reads (edited) 5y

Classic Ken Follett- fast-paced, solid historical fiction. Just what I like on the beach. 😊I liked the look into coal mining in 1766 Scotland.

This is a fast paced historical fiction novel that travels from the coal mines of Scotland to a tobacco plantation in the colony of Virginia. A quick read, good for the beach! 🌊☀️😊

I am always in awe of how Ken Follett can weave the story around you in such a way that you feel like you are in the room with the characters. So much detail. I love so many of his books, and I'm really enjoying this one.
