Christmas Box: 20th Anniversary Edition (Special)
Christmas Box: 20th Anniversary Edition (Special) | Richard Paul Evans
12 posts | 28 read | 2 to read
A special anniversary edition of the unforgettable Christmas classic that has touched the hearts of millions of readers: the most popular holiday tale since Tiny Tim ("Newsweek"). Since "The Christmas Box "was first published, more than eight million people around the world have been touched by its magic. It is a holiday classic that is as beloved in our time as "A Christmas Carol "was in Dickens s. This special 20th Anniversary Edition contains a new Introduction by the author, explaining how this personal tribute to his children, intended for just a few family members and friends, became a worldwide phenomenon that brings inspiration and healing to everyone who reads it. As he reiterates his intention to remind families of the preciousness of their love for each other, Evans explains how "The Christmas Box "has also helped children who have no families find love and hope. The miracle of "The Christmas Box "springs from its timeless message that knows no season. *** "This was the meaning of the Christmas Box, that someday I would turn around and my little girl would be gone . . ." How quickly the time has passed. Today those two little girls for whom I wrote "The Christmas Box "are adults. What hasn t changed is the relevance of my little story. Now, just as it was a thousand years ago and will be a thousand years from now, parents still look at their children and feel their hearts breaking a little, knowing that the only promise of childhood is that someday it will be gone. It is my deepest hope that, for centuries to come, the message of "The Christmas Box "will endure as a reminder of the sanctity and holiness of a parent s love. God Bless and Merry Christmas. From the Introduction to the 20th Anniversary Edition"

I had so many visions of John Boy as I read this. I couldn‘t recall how this one ended (I remember watching the movie years ago!), but Richard Paul Evans doesn‘t spare the children in his tiny stories. I kept reading, and hoping, oh please, not Jenna. Whew.

I can see why this is such a popular story for many. That said, I don't have kids, so this didn't have the same impact for me as it probably does for many. Still, a beautifully written tale. #WinterGames2020 #readnosedreindeer #littenlisten #averymerrybingo #festiveflicks #bookishbingo #bookspinbingo #ReadYourWay #CrushTheRush #DashingDecember #ChristmasSpirit #WinterSolstice (×2)

Two of my book clubs chose light holiday fare for December. The tagged book is a little sappy but pleasant #onesitting read. #featuresaholiday #Booked2018

I might be giving this a higher rating because I've always loved the 1995 made-for-TV movie based on this book. This is one of those rare instances where the movie is better than the book. Don't get me wrong, the book has a great message. I just feel it was a little too short with very little conflict, and the characters weren't fleshed out enough. Still, this is a quick read and worth reading this time of year. Find a copy of the movie! 4⭐️

DivineDiana Just discovered this author. On my second Christmas one now! Will look for movie! 🎄 6y
JenlovesJT47 @DivineDiana awesome! The movie is really great for a TV movie. It stars the always gorgeous Maureen O'Hara (she was in her 70s in this and still looked stunning!) and Richard Thomas (John-Boy from the Waltons). I try to watch it every year! 🎄💚🎄❤️🎄 6y
DivineDiana That cast lineup makes me want to find it even more! (edited) 6y
JenlovesJT47 @DivineDiana yes! Most of the time they air it at least once a year on TV, but I'm going to try to track down a copy for myself. 6y

So for today's #LyricalApril prompt, I was originally just going to show one book about someone who takes a holiday. But then I thought "Hey, why don't I just take a picture of my slightly embarrassing horde of holiday novels." So that's what I did. There's Valentine, Halloween, but it's mostly Christmas. Oh, and full disclosure; I had to remove the line of paperbacks in the front of this to be able to take the picture. ? #Holiday @Cinfhen

BooksAndTeaJulie I'm a total sucker for Christmas stories, too. 💕 7y
GypsyKat @JilliePop I'm glad it's not just me! 😊🎄 7y
BethM I looove Christmas novels. I binge them occasionally throughout the year. Same with Hallmark movies 😂 7y

GypsyKat @BethM Oh God! Christmas Hallmark movies are my guilty pleasure! Haha! 7y
Cinfhen Thanks for your dedication 😜we love seeing #shelfies on Litsy 7y
SaraFair There is nothing wrong with that addiction! Isn't it fun collecting? 7y
GypsyKat @SaraFair It is in a way. The funny thing is, I didn't set out to collect holiday novels, I just found I couldn't get rid of any, then I would see one somewhere, and I would pick it up. Lol! I all started innocently enough! 😉 7y
GypsyKat @Cinfhen Haha, it's not a shelf that I take pictures of often. It's stuffed to the brim with mostly used paperbacks. 😉 7y

"The first gift of Christmas was love. A parent's love. Pure as the first snows of Christmas. For God so loved His children that He sent His son, that someday we might return to Him."
