This was poorly written, the pacing was off, it was front loaded with exposition and it was boring.
I never got to experience this sweeping, technological advanced empire, every location was small and insular and could have been anywhere.

Pride Month: Day Eighteen! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Chaplin decided to use these books as a pillow earlier and I think that was his way of telling me he wanted me to feature them today! 😹 I just got the third book of this #gaysinspace trilogy recently and I'm really excited to start them now that I have all three! 💕📚

Amazon is once again stalking my wishlist and has offered me a $6 credit for a number of books. It was hard to chose but I‘ve wanted this one since I saw the announcement it was coming. It‘s $11.99 and that‘s more than I like to spend on an ebook from an not-known-to-me author but $5.99 is more in my range. I‘ve acquired it and it‘s now in the hoard.
I liked this most when I thought of Ettian as being played by John Boyega, Gal played by Oscar Isaac, and Wen ...probably played by Margot Robbie, or Jewel Straite. It was a fanfiction-ie froth, and that‘s isn‘t a bad thing. But somethings about the world building didn‘t work for me. The number of “ordinary” characters that turn out to be secret royalty is a lot to take.
This was a book I did not know I needed! From start to finish, the story and characters - fantastic! It is a book written with complexity and care, so as not to leave out any of the important defining character moments. AND, don't forget Wen, the half-burned girl with the rainbow umbrella lending more layers to this already 7 layer dip of a story! Both Ettian and Gal are full cinnamon roll mode and the story is heart pounding to the very end.
LGBT+ sci-fi? Be still my beating heart. I loved this book. Ettian has had a mad crush on his roommate Gal. When a bunch of their classmates attempt to assassinate Gal, Ettian finds out his friend is the heir to the Umber empire, the same empire that took everything from Ettian. It‘s a thrilling ride full of adventure, daring escapes, a lot of testing and questioning of loyalty, and one of the best parts of the book, Wen. Wen is my queen.
This was alright. The romance was cute but I feel like their romance was so centre to the plot that there's no big moment in the rest of the book with the whole "heir to a space empire while people try to kidnap them" premise.
Rep: m/m romance
I finished a couple sci-fi series recently so time to start a new one
I love earning free books with @penguinrandomhouse rewards. I think this is my 5th or 6th reward. I like it because I can take a chance on new authors or books I have never heard of. I won‘t lie I picked this one for the cover. Worse that can happen is it sucks. It‘s out now.
Genera: LGBTQ space romp/adventure - adult
The pitfalls of ARCs: this book was so good, such a great read, and /it‘s/ not even out yet- much less the sequels that I have an immediate need for. Aaaaargh. Anyway, if you‘d like a scifi adventure featuring a hotshot pilot and secret royal navigating deadly political intrigue, blood-obsessed empires, and a lovely, complicated roommates-to-more relationship, then here‘s your April read.

The romance was awful. The characters had no chemistry and I didn't like Gal, I never understood what Ettian saw in him and why he was willing to sacrifice so much for him.
