Who Was Dr. Seuss?
Who Was Dr. Seuss? | Who Hq, Janet B Pascal

Ted Geisel loved to doodle from the time he was a kid. He had an offbeat, fun-loving personality. He often threw dinner parties where guests wore outrageous hats! And he donned quirky hats when thinking up ideas for books- like his classic The Cat in the Hat. This biography, with black-and-white illustrations throughout, brings an amazingly gifted author/illustrator to life.

Our adorable little Dr. Seuss! 📚 That beard! 😂 Today was “wax museum” day for 3rd graders at our school. Each kid chose a biography, read it and took notes, then wrote a short speech to share today when a visitor stopped in front of them (6ft away + mask). Fun time! Of course, this sweet pea chose an author.

As a kid I think I always just pictured Dr. Suess at the Cat in The Hat, so I think it's really interesting for kids to have a name to put to the face of the author of so many of their favorite books.

"Who Was Dr. Seuss?" written by Janet B. Pascal/illustrated by Nancy Harrison is a cute, easy, readable biography (B) about Dr. Seuss, AKA Theodor Seuss Geisel! Generally, Pascal's books could be used during independent reading (IR). "Who Was Dr. Seuss?" is a wonderful way to inform students about who he was as a person and what inspired him to become an author. "Who Was Dr. Seuss?" is a chapter book for young students full of illustrations

caldwellalex95 throughout its entirety. Pascal includes a plethora of facts and illustrations, including a timeline of important dates crucial to Dr. Seuss's life. How did Dr. Seuss get his name? Why did he choose to write children's books? Read "Who Was Dr. Seuss?" to discover how Dr. Seuss became a powerful and prominent presence in children's literature! After reading Pascal's biography about Dr. Seuss, I discovered one of my classmate's Piktochart's about 6y
caldwellalex95 Dr. Seuss! In this Piktochart, my classmate included a bulleted list of biographical facts about Dr. Seuss, along with lesson plans, games relating to Dr. Seuss's books, and more! Her Piktochart is a wonderful source for students to use independently after reading this book to confirm or broaden their understanding. ESOL strategy #42 and UDL's strategy perception (1.3) can apply to students reading "Who Was Dr. Seuss?" or completing any of 6y
caldwellalex95 the activities listed on the Piktochart. Pascal's books are amazing to read, because they provide a fun alternative to reading about real people or real events that changed history! Some students might be turned off when reading biographies compared to fictional stories; however, Pascal's fun style of writing in conjunction with the illustrations make this book entertaining and pleasurable! #LAE3414SP19 6y

#lae3414sp19 The B written by Janet B. Pascal and illustrated by Nancy Harrison gives a very in depth look at the life of the very beloved Dr. Seuss. I loved learning more about who Dr. Seuss was! I read this book with the child that I nanny that was reading this for an Author Study project timed around the birthday of Dr. Seuss!

mluter I like the idea of using this book as an independent read for a student that can be linked to a bigger author study project! This template is great for taking notes while reading this book and picking out main ideas and important information that will be included in the author study presentation. https://www.teachingbooks.net/clp.cgi?master_id=47464&lf_id=1 UDL 3.2 and ESOL 28 6y

“Who was Dr. Seuss?” Is a B book written by Janet B. Pascal and illustrated by Nancy Harrison. I think this book would work well in an author study. This book is about the life of Theodor Seuss Geisel or better know as Dr. Seuss. This biography is kid friendly and shows students how one of their favorite authors came to be. #LAE3414sp19

LaGasseSam1996 The UDL I think would work the best is UDL 1.3 when used in the form of an author study. I think students would enjoy learning about Dr. Seuss just as much as they would enjoy making the information they received from this book into a poster, PowerPoint or any other media. 6y
LaGasseSam1996 ESOL 2 would work well in this. Having students broken up into groups to do an author study on Dr. Seuss. I think the students would enjoy working together and it allows the ESOL student to contribute without feeling left out. (edited) 6y
LaGasseSam1996 http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/author-study-impr... This lesson plan from ReadWriteThink has the students spilt into groups of 4. I think that would be great for ESOL students and they can each be creative with how they present their information. 6y
Edenmonet I love Dr. Seuss books! The lesson plan you have is so awesome, I‘ve never thought of doing an authors study like that. The lesson plan is good for developing students referencing and comparison skills! 6y
DrSpalding This was one of your favorites. Of course, reading this during an author study would be a smart move. 6y

Who was Dr. Seuss? is a B written by Janet B. Pascal and illustrated by Nancy Harrison. This book is about where Seuss got his inspirations from and how he changed the history of children‘s books. I think this book would be great for an AS for students to do. They could learn so much about him and learn things they probably didn‘t know before, just like I did. #ucflae3414f17

MeghanW EL Strategy 43: have student underline or highlight key words or important facts in written assignments. UDL Strategy 5.2: use multiple tools for construction and composition. https://edu.glogster.com/glog/drseuss/2r28g6ppboj this is a great tool for students or teachers. It is a glog I put together all about Dr. Seuss. It has good resources for his books and facts about him! 7y
laurie_jayy Just added this to my book list because I would love to know more about the man whose books I read growing up! The front cover even captured my attention. I think having students underline or highlight keys words is a great strategy! They can also highlight things they‘re confused about so they can ask question about them later on! :) 7y
DrSpalding Using the author study glog is fantastic! Your image is also very cool. 7y

This B chapter book by Janet Pascal is perfect to use in the classroom for AS! This book tells all about Dr. Seuss and his life, and includes illustrations and a timeline in the back of the book. Students could use this book to create presentations for an AS and then present to their classmates. This could meet UDL 7.1- optimize choice and autonomy because they can choose how to present the information. And EL 42- have students use timelines to

EricaG arrange and sequence important facts and information, they could use the timeline from the book in their presentations. http://www.teachersnotebook.com/product/McMarie/who-was-dr-seuss-janet-b-pascal-... This link gives you worksheets for a book study on this book. #UCFLAE3414F17 7y
Juliemorell This looks like another great biography series for children! You're right, this book could be great for an AS on dr. Suess 7y
MeghanW I also read this book and I love it and the series! It is a great way for students to read about important people in history. I think a timeline is a great way for students to organize their information. 7y

Who Was Dr Seuss by Janet B Pascal. This book is a Biography about Theodor Seuss Geisel and the struggles he faced in his early years on becoming a cartoonist. Ted was a determined man who at first didn't know what he wanted, but soon figured out that drawing weird animals and people was his main focus in the future. The Who Was books are great for students who love seeing visuals while reading. Good for 4th-middle school students. #UCFWalterslit

Erica.rivera Here is an interactive website that features all his books and games for the students to learn and play. http://m.seussville.com and here is another website on The Who was books series about different people, What was, about different places and Where is books about different locations. http://www.whowasbookseries.com/who-was/ 7y

A story about the great Dr. Seuss, with black and white illustrations brings an author to life with a great B. A story about Dr. Seuss in school to when he was older and worked for a book company. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B32u4qrIVZQ #UCFLAE3414su17
