If Jane Austen had to choose between the heart and the pen, what would she do? At age twenty-eight, Jane Austen should be seeking a suitable husband, but all she wants to do is write. She is forced to take extreme measures in her quest to find true love which lands her in the most extraordinary of circumstances. Magically, she finds herself in modern-day England, where horseless steel carriages line the streets and people wear very little clothing. She forms a new best friend in fading film star Sofia Wentworth, and a genuine love interest in Sofias brother Fred, who has the audacity to be handsome, clever and kind-hearted. She is also delighted to discover that she is now a famous writer, a published author of six novels and beloved around the globe. But as Janes romance with Fred blossoms, her presence in the literary world starts to waver. She must find a way to stop herself disappearing from history before its too late. A modern-day reimagining of the life of one of the worlds most celebrated writers, this wonderfully witty romantic comedy offers a new side to Janes story, which sees her having to choose between true love in the present and her career as a writer in the past. Artfully written and engaging, Jane in Love is a lively effusion of wit and humour.' Graeme Simsion

A bit goofy but so fun. Time travel, romance & two great characters (love Sophie & of course Jane), even if it didn‘t completely satisfy in some ways, it always warms my heart to see Austen treated like the genius she was—am I the only one who thinks of her as a familiar friend? I have no trouble with Jane as a character always feeling real.

That said, I‘m a little mad that this Wentworth was not nearly as swoon-worthy as the original.

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Crinoline_Laphroaig I have these on my shelf! I often refer to 'Jane' like we are close personal friends. 3y

For all my #PemberLittens with Kindles & e-readers, these two popped up today. The tagged book for $3.99 & the other one (not in the Litsy database that I could find) “Mary Bennet and the Bingley Codex (Regency Mage Book 1)” which is tagged as “A magical sequel to Pride and Prejudice” & is free on Kindle right now.

Despite having a #TBR stack that I will never be able to get through, I now own them both.📚🤷🏻‍♀️📚📚📚📚

kspenmoll Oh no- I could not resist! Sold! 3y

I love both Jane Austen and time travel shenanigans so I thought this book would be right up my alley. I was very, very wrong. The dialogue was stilted and weirdly formal from the modern characters, Jane's relationship with Fred was underdeveloped and never sold me on the emotional stakes of the story, and there were so many odd plot point choices. Honestly, I wouldn't have finished this if I didn't owe #netgalley a review of it.

Oh I LOVED this! Jane Austen in modern times is a fabulous premise and so well written, with the obligatory love interest spicing up Jane‘s life. It had shades of Back to the Future, with Jane‘s books slowly disappearing the longer she stayed in the 21st century and, of course, we know she will have to return to her own time to create her masterpieces but it was a genuinely lovely story while it lasted.

This was lovely. An interesting premise, and a story of the hearts of humans and how one woman wrote about them.

A rom-com for book lovers, just in time for Valentine's Day! Imagine if Jane Austen time-travelled to the present, and had to choose between love and literature... It's probably not one for the Austen purists, but still a delightful, warm and easy read that merges the 19th and 21st centuries. The perfect gift for your historical-fiction-loving Valentine!
